Another problem on the 53 GMC

Ignition switch. I installed a new key cylinder. When turned to the left everything lights up and power flows. The key will come out in the "on" position. When turned to the right, power goes off but the key will not come out. New switch, new cylinder and new key.

 

Sounds like it was “reverse “ engineered , as in backwards

 

that's what I'm thinking.
