As if I don`t have enough projects now I just did a deal for this 52 Merc. The car has been around for a number of years and came from down south a number of years ago. The car was in a fire and burned to the ground. Since then it has changed hands a number of times with each doing there part to try and customize it.It was a 2 door hardtop and the roof has been cut off. All the frame work had been done and all brake work has been completed.Has a S10 clip with a S10 rearend It is set up for a SBC and will stay that way. Be nice car for a early Ford engine but my plan is to finish it and use it for awhile and flip it. Plans are to build a roof and chop it but before then I will make a driver out of it and then do the body. This body is mint for these parts!! Been wanting to get my chevy done for this summer but I am so busy at my shop that doing all the work needed to be done is crazy. I want a car for the summer and I think this is the easy root. I put the chevy in storage today till this is finished.Need to figure out a roof and dig up a engine and go from there. Might build a carson roof or I just might build a full roof from another car. we will see where that will go.. Anyway another project!! Oh my!

you should be able to whip that into shape pretty quick ! at least you dont have to build 3/4 of the body eh :D. Do you know of any bodys you can scalp the roof from? How about that more-door chevy parts car you dragged home a while ago, at least its already in stock! So is this thread the new build thread?

i was playing around with the idea of the 52 Chevy roof but I think it is too round for this car. I have a roof from a 60 Pontiac that might be better. Did a bit of a photo chop and this is what I have in mind. The car was green all ready so I kept it green. But you get the idea

Not too hung up on the headlights on this car, they hang off the front too far, so plan is to use the 56 olds Headlights I have .I found this pic.

Thanks Leon. I think this is a easier car to get on the road for this summer. unlike the fleetline I don`t have to do a thing to the floors and frame in this one so that puts me far ahead of the game.

Also if you need parts for it we can work another deal haha I will make very very well worth your while . I think this will be another one I will regret ....only thing is I would never have had the time to finish it . I know you will get this one on the road for the summer . Thanks Fitz I cant wait to get my truck finished .

I like the '56 Olds lights, I have a set with fender cutoffs for my '53. There's gotta be some rotted out 52-54 Ford or Mercury 2 door hardtops around Canada that you could get a roof from, that would be a heck of a lot easier. I've got a '54 glasstop roof that I've been waiting for the right car to mate it to, I'd love to find one like yours to use it on.

There are a few roofs but I looking to chop it and change the lines on the roof. That glass roof would be cool to add on a custom. I know of one here that a guys has but he won`t part with it.

Just let me know when we're going! loL

Thats way farther along than the Flatliner and the chop is half done already.
    Perfect! ;)

  14. Fitz, what happened to the roof that Milt had on it? It was from a mid sixties GM. Also, I like the Caddy taillights better. Somebody must have been working on it after Milt sold it. Nice project, hope to see it on the road this summer.

I remember that car! I don't remember the guy's name, so I'm not much help in a search, but it looked fantastic, like way, way better than it sounds. It flowed just right. It's the kind of thing where it sounds like it'd be hideous but it was actually beautiful.

If you can re-create that roofline on this Merc you'll have a stunner for sure.

Lol ditto for what Squablow said ! Also see if you can dig up some pics of the Larry Ericson designed 53 Buick built by Jim Baille in Southern Ontario in the early 90's ...it used a mid 60's Impala top as well really flowed nice.

    Damn, that does look cool.

Come to think of it, the sky is the limit. If you can score a complete car to cut the roof from, you could also cut out the cowl section and pillars.
The side glass is flat, so that shouldn't represent any major challenge.

Personally, I think it would look cool with a cadzilla style swoop roof. Use the windshield from a 90's pontiac minivan... Or maybe a flat top '59 GM roof... Just day-dreaming :p

Steve what front glass did he use on it?? I like the roof line. Playing around with some ideas. One thing, and most might not like it,is i will be changing the hood. I not a lover of the 52 merc hood. Not a scoop lover on customs. I have a 52 Ford hood that i will be swapping out the skin to the merc hood. The Ford hood has a rounder look to it.

Like a kid with a new toy the merc had to be picked at today.rustydibris show up this morning and Jumped right into the car. He stripped it of all the junk that was on it so we could see what we were getting into. I cut the Ford hood so to get the skin and placed it on the merc hood. With some trimming it will work out good. Mocked up a SBC to see if the mounts were in right. We just need to raise up the tail of the trans to get the motor level. Couldn`t keep my hand from experimenting with ideas. Did a little flame job!! and cut the front post and mocked of some rod to see what the window opening might look like. Seems like my idea of getting it wired and running first is out the window!! If I have it my way there will be a roof on this before long!! Have a game plan for the roof and just need to iron out a few details.
