God's going to have to put in a race track and a drag strip the way they are showing up recently. Rip it up Cale!

One of my favorites from that era, Cale was tough as nails and built like a cast iron fire plug. Godspeed Cale.

Many many happy memories watching Cale race. He had 2 speeds. Stop and slam wide open.

Cale’s fight with the Allisons did more to save NASCAR than about anything!

  9. You got that right! I agree.

Cale was truly from a golden era of Nascar......he and his peers from the same time period made it the golden era.....they were "racers"......not the sophisticated "drivers" that we have today. I was blessed to be around Cale, Benny Parsons, Petty, the Allisons during sponsor excursions in Atlanta, Phoenix and Michigan in those awesome times. RIP

Named my son Cale after him. Actually, his middle name as was Yarboroughs.

  21. Cale was the guy who won the 1983 Daytona 500 in a car they pulled off the Volusia County Mall where it was on display. Every Speed Week there are show cars all over town, Earnhardt's cars looked like they were ready to race, others were not.

Cale balled up his main car and the backup car. the team went across highway 92 and took the display car back to the garage. Between what they had, they were able to flog it into the race winner that year.

I was thinking Cale might have done some Hotrod in his younger days or did even earlier roundy round...I couldn't find any pics though...anybody aware of any...perhaps mid to later 50s...As solemn as these losses are, it's also I time to celebrate there legacies...

I'm an 80s baby so my memories of Cale are the orange and white Hardees's Thunderbird.

I always watched Wide World of Sports as a kid in the late 60s into the 70s so that's where I heard these names mentioned many times as they hurtled around the tracks...but they were doing it far earlier as they were getting up there when I was old enough to understand it all...

Here's Cales' ride for the 66 or 67 Daytona 500 (I can't tell the difference between a 66 and 67 Fairlane). Holman-Moody Built. Wood Brother prepared.
In Real Pearl White and Candy Apple Red !!

He did a couple more 60-65 but I think he was blasting around in those tri fives too...those I want to see...

I read a story here yesterday saying he drove a 57 Chev I believe in a race for someone and it was an overpowered rocket but he raced it like a bucking bronco...this was a 50's event...it was a 55 Chevy...;)...see below...

  28. His first venture into NASCAR was sweeping the floors in one shop. The earliest pictures I have seen of him were with big '62 Fords.

  29. With the Pontiacs, by 1962-1963 they were pushing 180 in cars that were not that far from factory stock. The next big revolution came with the advent of the H-M unibody Fairlanes.
