Folks Of Interest Another scammer alert. They have a website now.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Hitchhiker, Jul 5, 2023.

  1. This one is pretty good guys...

So a scammer on Instagram, name doesn't matter, they will change it soon. Is using stolen pictures of my own items, (easily verified by my truck with matching license plate in the background) and posting them for sale. Has a link to their own website on his page Instagram page.

    The website is OldSkoolhotrodparts.com

If you go to the page, it looks VERY LEGIT. But if you look around, you can see that they have mistakes in their English use. And spelling mistakes using different forms of spelling the same thing. Because they're not familiar with American english. The claim they are based out of Beaumont Texas. But I absolutely guarantee they are in Camaroon. And the website is only from September of last year. Seems pretty quick to become "America's #1 parts seller"

When questioned, they claim they do drop shipping. Which is weird...I don't understand how you do that with used parts?

Be careful guys. This is a large and organized ring of thieves. Targeting many different markets. If we could not get all macho and internet gun slinger in here. That would be great. I highly suggest you go to the FTC website and report these things when you find them as well.

Same bunch calling up offering free steak dinners at Texas Roadhouse, I reckon. Wanting us to "verify our address" because "our order is held up in transit"..... five miles of dirt road behind an F100 needing a ring job would fix 'em.

Please don't click their link from here.

They will see where the traffic is coming from and they'll come here and be annoying.

almost certainly a dead giveaway right there. or cars in different seasons, snow, grass up to the windows, etc.. it's tough enough to buy and sell legitimately with clowns like that around.

I just talked to someone with this phone number at rodsville quick change and they seemed to know a lot about quick changes. Didn't seem like a scam to me. I think they've been around for years.

Ive got a Hot Rod Works V8 to T5 adapter bought a few years back. No issues w those guys. Id guess this is a different company all together.

  11. Time for everyone here to contact them and ask for some '45 Henway parts. Might as well keep them busy.

@HotRodWorks , they are using pics off your website.
Go into "ALL HOT ROD PARTS" in the top menu bar on their site.
Then go to "APPAREL" in the catagories section on the left hand side of the page.

The phone number they list belongs to someone else. They have probably piggybacked onto it.

Phone Number. 1-434-535-2466. Rocketgenius, Inc. industries. Software Development. Headquarters Location. 1620 Centerville Turnpike, Virginia Beach, VA, ...

  16. At a glance the site looks quite legit. I'm too cheap to give my $$ to unknowns. I always ask around here, or stick with what I know.

This fkn mope has had 4 or 5 different names in the last several months. I asked to stop by the next day and pick up a 9" housing. He said I had to pay for it 1st. Go figure...

Thanks for the heads up. We're looking into this.

  19. Their address is a big residential area with no industrial buildings nearby. Scam!

  20. Read their reviews and the "about us" page. Reviews are hilarious and the about me page is incredibly vague.

There is a automotive shop down the street, with some old cars on the property, but nothing at the address on the website. Scam 100%

The postcard people solved this problem. They would advertise a rare postcard for sale and the bad guy would copy it and then advertise the copy. The remedy is to add a watermark to the picture much like is done in text documents with DRAFT. That "spoils" the picture. You should be able to think up something that would relate the picture to you and not a scanner.

There's no shortage of scams going on today, and many have totally stolen legitimate dealer's websites and are claiming to sell their products. Some are so good that when you're searching for a part they come up among the sellers, and you can go back and forth from a legitimate site to the scam sight and see no difference, except their prices are 1/3rd lower, and many offer free shipping.
I nearly bought from one recently and got all the way to the checkout area when I saw their list of ways to pay. Things like Paypal Friends & Family, or other unprotected methods. They wouldn't accept a credit card at all! I called the phone number I had for the real company and asked why they didn't accept credit cards, and was told the site I was viewing isn't theirs, and is a scam site. He asked me to email him the site link and said he's working with the FBI to go after these guys.
So if you get to the checkout area and it wont let you buy with a credit card, run like Hell!

To be fair, a LOT of Americans are bad with their own native language, including grammar and spelling. Not everyone takes time to edit their websites, posts or even knows the difference between correct and incorrect. Note that "English" should be capitalized. :)
