Has anyone put a Chevy 250 I6 in one of the older Olds bodies like a 50 88? and if so what kind of a problem would it be to do so. I have a 303 in it now but thinking about putting the 250 in it backed up by a T5 trans. just wondering what kind of problems I would run into by doing this. Don't mean to hijack the thread but just another idea about types of engines to use.

Not sure on the inline, I think my 98 would be to much for a little 6er. I have now decided I will probley be going with a 472 Cadi with a 400turbo. Im gonna go and get her this weekend. I need to be looking into brakes... Is there a disc brake setup that will bolt on to my o.e. spindles? Or is there a supplier that sells new shoes and drums???

    Thanks H.A.M.B.

  4. There's a couple guys who make disc stuff for the early cars, check with them. The name of the better one escapes me atm... Scarebird I think. Also Master Power Brakes.

I'm sure Kanter will have the shoes if no one else does.

Most later GM engines the oil filter adapter is a bolt on piece - Chev and Pontiac are the same part, others may be the same - might be able to use a Chevy S10 4.3L remote filter setup as a bolt-on -

Olds used the flathead 6 in the '49 models.........'50 & '51 88 same ch***is...should be room for a Chev 6 as long as the pan clears or may be modified to clear if necessary.

Have you thought about a 57 or 58 Olds 371 with J-2 option? Big time low end torque and the three deuces give you good cruisin mileage. The hydro will bolt right up! I'll take the old hydramatic over a 400 any day, that is if it is a 55 or 56 OLDS, PONTIAC, or Cadillac dual range hydro, not the dual coupling type.

I will look a little harder for the brakes, I thought I checked Kanter already but I could be wrong.

I have tried to stay with an Olds power plant, but it seems to be the old rocket motors are rare to find running... The most common Olds motors are 350, 455, and the 307. Im not sure if my Hyrdo works or not. I was told it ran when I bought it so the ****** is questionable. I believe the ****** is the original from 51, dont know much about them so its all foreign to me.

    Thanks for your help everybody.
