Have followed a lot of the T5 behind a flattie threads and was wondering, is it possible to bolt a T5 in a 32 with out butchering the K member?
You would have to cut the top of the K member completly away to clear the shifter and 90% of the bottom to clear the housing. Build a aftermarket frame if you want a T-5. I really think a standard 39 box with Lincoln gears is the way to go and you can retain the stock rear. That is what I am running in my 32 withs 276. I had built a frame with room for a T-5 but after driving one, I sold the T-5.
Thanks Andy and was just wondering. There is no way I would butcher the K member for a T5. I have a 40 ish box that I am using. Suprisingly, no one has engineered a way to cram a couple more gears into the stock box.
I think all currently known transmission solutions, including Lincoln torque-tube trans with OD or the HAMB-developed T5 with torque tube, involve great violence to the crossmember. I think the sanest solution is a Mitchell...they sell their OD built into a custom correct length torque tude-driveshaft****embly. With 4.11's I think it would be great. A transmission based solution would be great...remember, Ford used a truck four speed (NOT a serious option here!!) that fit into same place as its 3 speeds...but the engineering and fabrication load would be staggering. Someone makes a synchro gear set for Model A that I think is made from some kinf of existing gearset cut down/welded/etc. to be stuffed into an A case...some food for thought, but I think a project that would require an extra lifetime.
