Hello HAMBers I have been lurking on this board for 2 years, just not wanting to show my ignorance by posting too soon, figered I needed to learn something first. I have been around streetrods since they were Hotrods in the 50s. I live in Austin Texas and currently I am re-building a 47 Ford long door coupe. My first big project is to replace the frame because of a poor job the previous owner did with a Camaro front clip. He actually lengthend the wheelbase to 116 inches, looks weird. One of the best cars here in Austin belongs to HAMBer Outlaw. His 51 is right on for the cars from Austin in the late 50s and early 60s. That was the time for some well known Austin cars such as the "Purple Turtle", the "Fugative", the "?" and others. Glad to finally do my intro and I hope I can help someone someday, I know I have learned a lot here already. dave
Welcome to the HAMB, Dave. I'm about 95 miles northeast of Austin. I had a 46 Ford coupe with a 57 Olds J-2 in it in high school in the 60s, wish I still had it.
Hey Dave, Just saw your post, man. Great to see ya on the HAMB! Folks, don't let Dave sandbag you with his "I need to learn something first" stuff. He is extremely knowledgeable and will no doubt have tons to contribute. Dave is also the master of finding hard-to-read VIN numbers on frames. Really looking forward to reading your posts, and hope life's been treating you good. -murph
Welcom to the HAMB. Always good to see another citizen of Texas on here. Throw up some pics of your current project. Drive a 58 Apache myself, but been day dreamin' recently bout an A coupe. Saw an A coupe about ten years ago burried up to the floor boards out behind a shop in the middle of downtown Houston. Been thinking about it since. Went there yesterday and the man says it was bought and hauled off about 9 1/2 years ago. Why is it you find it and you don't have the bread, or you have the bread and can't find it?
Thanks for the welcome ya'll. Murph, glad to hear from you. What are you doing to the shoebox? Family OK? BELLM, I also had a pair of 47 Fords many years age. One was flathead powered and the other had a flattie then an Olds, then a 392 Hemi, boy those engines could eat ****** parts. Lucky Strike, Those Apaches are fun trucks for sure. I know what you mean about when the car is for sale you have no change, get the change and no car....... always seems to work that way. Thanks again for the welcome, see ya on the board. dave
Yeah, I kinda had a feeling that a guy who's 'been around rods since they were hotrods in the '50s' probably didn't need any schooling from me to get something done. Welcome Dave! Have fun on the HAMB, BDE
