i hate the thought of old cars sitting in a yard just neglected like this, have you tried offering to work on them? maybe after the guy sees that you wont "ruin" the car in his eyes, he'll let you buy the stuff, or even get some freebies!

i just dont see whats so great about having old cars sitting around that will never get worked on. that A roadster looks like a stalled restoration.

Cool stuff, luckily it looks like it's mostly inside or up off of the ground where it won't hurt it too much. It's his stuff to do what he wants with, but it wouldn't hurt to try to stay friends with the guy, hopefully if he decides to cut loose of any of it you'll be at the top of the list.

I like that converted sedan/truck, I haven't seen one before that utilized the back of the sedan body as the truck bed before.

Just tell me you're nowhere near Hawley and I'll be able to sleep at night. I use to live there and just down the road (not from wherever you took pictures) from a 60 el camino and woke up one day and it was GONE!! Nobody...even folks who lived there 20+ years knew who it belonged to. Thieves I suspect.:(

Damn, I know the feeling. When I lived in Savannah Ga there was a flea market, Kellers I think, and the fella who owned it had tons of great old ford and harley stuff all over the flea market grounds. I talked to him (the guy must have been like 80 yrs old) he claimed he would never sell anything out of his "collection" Same old story....

Just remember the alternative.....nobody saved the stuff and it does not exist anymore. At least in the present scenario, there is a chance he'll change his mind. If it were not saved, all that old tin would have been s****ped and turned into Tuna Fish cans years ago.

I'd love to look in my backyard and see those bodies...why begrudge him a little joy in life?!? It's not like he took them from you or anything...go find your own damn car instead of moaning that you have to work so harrrrrrrd to find a car

just knowing were it is is important, maybe he'll let it go, maybe he'll die b4 he gets to, just make sure your there when one happens, though it always ****s when people die, and give the family sometime b4 asking about the stuff if he dies... i know were a 34 ford pickup and some other old truck cab are, neither want to get rid of them, but one day they will either get fixed or they'll get rid, or die, at least you know were it is, yea

Years ago we got a phone call at the store from a guy who wanted to sell a 28-29 Roadster body in ****inson TX south of Houston. We went down there after and met the guy at his house. We bought the roadster body, a frame and the ***le (1967 Stripdown) for $50.

The guy wanted to show us his restored A so we went to the garage and looked in. There was what we thought was a dual sidemount 28-29 Town Sedan, real nice one too. He fired it up and as he drove it out we were surprised to see it was a fordor sedan converted to a pickup similar to the one in the junkyard pic. The bottoms of the rear doors had been welded in and the upper back section less doors back section moved forward to meet the center door posts. The bed walls were capped and a real nice inside and floor had been made up. The bed sides even had a rail in the old bar and ball style around the top.
Aside from the 30-31 19" wheels on the ground(the sidemounts were proper 28-29 21") the darn thing was stock as it could be. The guy knew it wasn't "correct" but he had restored it just as it was when he got it because he thought it was pretty neat too!

I've often wondered what happened to that fine old modified sedan pickup.

ya i know its wrong to want someone to sell their stuff, but id like to see somthin done with it, the guy isnt alllll that old like late 50s, so by the time he kicks the bucket i fear it will be to late for these cars.

but i am freinds with him and his son, and its not like i bug him all the time about it, hes a cool guy i just hate to see those cars go.

Offer to finish the restoration of the roadster in trade for another of the cars. It's worked for me several times.

Have a friend who lost several antiques to the rust bug. "They are mine.",says he. Anne Landers says these folks were poor when they were little, so they hoard stuff till it sinks into the ground. Oh well, good thing it's none of my business.
