I found this out in the desert today and I'm wondering if there's enough there to identify. I think I'll get the dash and straighten it out a bit and hang it on my wall. I like the look of the gauges. The car appears to all be there, it just looks like it was run over by a steam roller. Larry
That die cast tail light housing on the right rear fender (see lower right corner in the first pic) is still worth grabbing if it's not smashed.
When I first saw those photos I thought that the only way you could tear something up that bad was to run over it with a cat or a tank. Sure enough look at the tracks across the quarter panel. Probably cut up in pieces and dumped out there in the 50's when a lot of s**** yards didn't want body sheet metal.
Thats one of those lightweight Anglia g***er bodies . Looks like it was hastily buried. I see a banjo steering wheel, gauges and even the handbrake lever.
My Dad told me that s****yard operators used to pile all the old bodies and set them on fire to burn out all the wood and upholstery, then flatten the pile with a dozer. There were still piles of flat, rusty sheetmetal in almost every yard I saw in Central Virginia right up to the 90's.
I wouldn’t doubt it a bit. When I was a kid I grew up in the county, my Dad worked for electrical places and always snagged the leftovers of wires. He’d put the in a 55 gallon drum and mash them down. With the right wind he’d toss some gas in there light it off and burn the insulation off the wires. And now we have clean air days for reasons like that
Kind of amazing that those gauges even LOOK like they are salvageable! The surrounding trim, not so much
reminds me of Mike Wolf from American pickers digging up an old rust harley buried in some woman's back yard that he was told about
