My dad has a un-HAMB friendly Cadillac with 500 ci engine. It is a good running car, low miles, strong engine. The car is front wheel drive, so I am sure most people would only be interested in the engine. The car is a convertible, and it sat outside with the back glass broken out, in the weather for over 5 years. The floorboards are pretty much gone from the front seats to the trunk. I think he shold just cut his losses and sell the engine, and try to get something out of it. So my question is what is a good running 500 Caddy engine go for?
What year caddy and how many miles is on it? Does it start up and possibly driven away? Could be worth $200 or could be worth $600. All depends on the above.
mid 70's eldos seem to be only worth scrap unless they're mint. I've bought 2 500's, one was $140 and came with a rusted out eldo, the other was $100 and still showed hone marks in the bores.
It is a 1973. Yes it could be started and driven away. My dad did a favor for a relative in trade of the car. Neither my dad or the relative new how bad the floors were. So now my dad is stuck with a worthless car with a good engine, and he probably isn't going to sell it for anything less than what he has in it, but I think he should just take what he can get and be done with it.
The longer he sits on it the worse it will get. What you got there is a great demolition derby car! Have some fun with it than sell it as scrap or for the engine.
I wouldn't say a '73 Eldo droptop, running and driving, is "worthless" even with the bad floors. I'd have a hard time thinking you couldn't get a grand for it.
the 472 and 500 inch caddys of those years use BOP bellhousings and are light for their size. insta torque, and i have a 7 quart rear sump oil pan and hipo oil pump that is angled for practically any chassis if some one needs it. High nickle content heads need no hardened seats unless a repair is needed.
The Eldo pan is the one you need to put one of these motors in most frames. The rear drive cars had a front sump pan. The pan alone might be worth a bit to someone who really needs it.
put an aluminum intake on it and BAM it weighs almost as much as a stock SBC with tons of torque stock. sanderson makes some nice headers for them and I am not sure but if the 73 is not electronic pertronix makes a kit for it. I had a 71 sedan deville that i drove till the timing chain broke. I pulled the motor/tranny and scrapped the rest. I then sold a buick 455 to a person and my brother gave them the caddy motor instead of the buick 455. I was wanting to drop the caddy motor into something eventually.
