I got a phone call out of the blue from a lady who found our car club number (which is mine...). The usual sad tale, Dad has passed and there's 'stuff' left over from his car hobby. They cleaned out his house, this has ended up at her house but she needs it gone in the next week. A bunch of engine stands, engine hoist, boxes of 'stuff' and two motors. One is a 302 Ford, but the other is a '53 Cadillac. Supposedly running when pulled about 10 years ago but was replaced because 'performance fell off' and it has been stored inside. I will check to see if it'll turn. Are these worth much? Yeah, I know, it's the same old story, it's worth something to the right buyer but are many still out there? I hate to see this end up scrapped, so I'm going to go look at it all and make an offer. Then I get to sit on it a while... The family still owns the '53 Caddy and I was pleased to hear they're keeping it because of all the memories.
look in classifieds here, eBay, etc to estimate value of course, depends on sell it now prices or sentimental prices
Most engines sitting on the floor without receipts are core engines and worth what a core of that make is worth. With that said the Cad has value.
I assumed that it would be considered a core, it's just that values seem to be all over the map on the few I can find for sale...
The trick is finding a few that sold, and getting the actual $$$ paid. completed ebay auctions is good for that, for stuff that is easy to mail, but engines...not so much. Good luck, I mostly gave away some later Caddy engines when I moved a couple years ago.
Sadly what it is worth is scrap price + maybe a nice dinner to talk over old times. Sadly in todays world .... very few are interested in these old parts. If anyone was interested in these things they already would be bought. When my wife Uncle passed away, he had 2 acres of cars ... A building full of engines. A rebuilt Y block with a over drive transmission. Rebuilt 302 GMC 283 with 1k miles on a rebuild .... The list goes on. There was a almost complete interior for a 1962 SS impala in that shed ... Main part being the red steering column, steering wheel in perfect condition. There was about 15 or more good engines in that shed .... there was barrels of chrome or SS trim for various cars .... there was fender skirts. .... there was a complete 49 Ford truck bed hanging from the rafters. Thats one shed .... next was a shed full of hubcaps, radios. It all went to a scrap yard ... nobody in the family cared. The sheds were cleared out by a kid who had a trailer ... come haul it away. Sadly the property had many vehicles in running condition. 55 packard with a rod knock. Many other cars & trucks ... all sold to a local scrap yard @ $100 each ..... 55 chebby truck you start up & drive on to the trailer. No family member cared .... they wanted the property cleared, the house sold .... divide up the profits. @Crazy Steve You do what you want, If you do not save it from the scrap yard ... they will send it to the scrap yard to be rid of it.
