I went and looked at a 1953 Chrysler windsor the other day. It is in amazing shape. The interior is perfect, trans was rebuilt about 2 years ago. The paint is original and in great shape for the age. Absolutely no rust. Engine is a flathead 6 with 46000 miles. All the chrome and trim is awesome. Car is definitely a daily driver. Its owned by an 86 year old man who's had it for sale for awhile but he doesn't advertise it so no one knows about it. The only thing is its a 4 door? He wanted $3500 said his bottom dollar is $3000. Is a more door worth it?
Early-mid 50s Mopars dont seem to hold much value, especially 4 doors. Most of them are worth the drivetrain (early hemi) but Id say that if it is as nice as you say its maybe worth that much. It certainly isnt a killer deal by any shot, but for something to cruise around in and enjoy on Sundays as just an old car, it might be fun.
Any old car with that kind of mileage in that kind of shape is worth his $3000 bottom dollar. It doesn't matter what body style. If you want to ride around in an old car and enjoy it for little money and littler maintenance, get on board! Only in the car guy world does body style matter and as we old guys die off it matters less and less.
It's kinda sad but good for me (since I love 'em) That the mopars doors don't have crap for resale. Heck even the 2 doors. I bought my '47 dodge 3 window coupe on here for $500. if that were a ford or a chevy it would have been a hell of alot more than that. I say buy those old boats are great. I'm 6'6 and I fit fine in the back seat of those ig 4 door mopars. Caddy comfort for VW prices, gotta love them mopars.
Parts availability is best described as "not very", so only consider buying real nice ones However they were/are very classy cars and you will always have the only one at the show. If cared for it'll never be worth less than you paid, although selling it may be a hassle (like today). Good luck whatever you choose
