Another wheel ID thread

  1. 16 inch with 4 3/4" bolt pattern. Was told these were for a Chevy. Are these artillery wheels and are they worth anything ?

Can you double check the bolt pattern? They appear to be Mopar and usually Plymouth from the mid 30's. Same 5 on 4.5 inch bolt pattern as many Fords and very popular and worth good money.

  3. I can double check the bolt pattern this week. A guy I used to work for sandblasted and painted them for a customer a couple years ago. I can get all five for 180.00

Those really, really look like 17" 1935 Plymouth wheels which would have a 4 1/2" bolt pattern. Did you measure them? Or are the measurements just what the guy told you? Because I'd bet a dollar that's what they are.

I don't know of a single vehicle produced before 1949 that had a 5 on 4 3/4" bolt pattern. Keep in mind that Chevrolet used 6 lug on all of their cars through 1948, and by 1949 pretty much everyone was using 15" rims and tires.

You may not be measuring the bolt pattern correctly as 95% of every seems to not know how to do so for some reason.

I love arguing with old men at swap meets who complain that everyone keeps selling them the wrong wheels...lol.

Measure from the outside edge of any hole,to the center of either hole directly across from it.

  7. I'm going to check them tommorrow but now I'm thinking they are a 5" bolt pattern now that you tell me how to measure them. I measured from center to center on the hole directly across.

I want to thank you for sharing the correct method of measuring bolt patterns. I’ve tried a couple of times but I am dense enough that I just couldn’t figure it out. When I read your post I went right out and measured several different wheels. Works for me.

Thanks I do appreciate the education and it’s of value to me.:)

Hi, That is a mid 1930's Oldsmobile 16" artillery wheel. 5x4 3/4" bolt pattern. That is a very good deal for those. Dont see them all the time. They are not dodge or plymouth. If you need any more help. let me know. Thanks, Mike

  10. Bolt circle is 5 inch . Center hole measures about 3 3/8.

Chevy used a 5-bolt wheel on Standard model 33-35 Cars which I believe was 5 on 4 3/4". Curse me if I am wrong.
