I hope the picture opens. Dad is the second one from the left bottom row. He p***ed away 2 hrs after his 2nd wife p***ed July 2nd 2008. Yes we had a double funeral. Dad loved her so much he couldn't live on. He had a sever heart attack 2 hrs after she p***ed from cancer. Dad was 84 yrs, one month, and five days old. He flew 26 missions over Europe. Was credited for shooting down one Me-262, and a**** other medals earned a purple heart . We will miss them both very much.

a few years back, America was losing WW2 vets at a rate of about 1000 per day...just the sad, unavoidable sunset to the "greatest generation".

Sorry for your loss, man... looking at the brighter side, he had a full life with 84 years under his belt...hope I make it to 84!

  11. In this day of a media that does not want to show the true American person, I find this story a nice refresher. I am in the middle of Ernie Pyles War Dispatches for about the 5th time in my life.........most of us alive today aren't worth the sweat on a Veterans balls, even if we served.

your family will be in my families prayers, this is the second or third time i have heard something like that happening. i know its a huge loss to you but look at it this way they are together forever watching over you and your family.

I think it is awesome that your father was in WWII and served proudly. he helped us retain our freedoms that we so much take for granted. My father in law was in the Navy and in the Pacific theater during the big one. the stories he can tell just keep me mesmerized for hours.

    26 missions is amazing.

My father-in-law is an 8th Air Force veteran and I've been getting some old stories out of him to p*** on to future generations.

    God Bless 'em all....

Sorry to hear of your loss--your father's service during WW two are why we have the freedom we do today. Many people today don't understand what these men did and take it for granted. My father flew 17's out of England but p***ed awy many years ago. I will add your father to those I think of whenever I put out our flag for holidays and remember them for what they did to preserve our way of life.

    My condolences..
It's been 5 years now that my Dad (miss you every day Dad) p***ed away. He was at Iwo, Saipan, Corrigador, Solomon Islands..and smuggled a brownie and took lots of pictures. I have his purple heart..DSC..all his sevice medals on the wall right by next to me now on the wall.

Two days ago some piece of ****..broke into my truck and stole my briefcase..which had two items my Dad always carried. A Swiss Army knife and a small custom knife I bought for him many years ago.
Dad was a regular working man..never would buy an "expensive" thing like a good pocket knife..always got the cheapest.
He had those two knives I got him in his pocket every day until the end.

These ***holes took the credit cards..took my checkbook..two digital cameras..the days deposits from my office..everything of "value"..

    BUT..!!

They threw the briefcase with the knives..and pictures of my son and daughter.. in the parking lot dumpster..I got a call today and picked them up..

All the rest don't mean ****..I have the only things of value back..

I got Dad's knives in front of me right now.
They will NEVER leave this house again..

Dads live forever in our thoughts and hearts..I see him in my dreams..when in the garage working on the cars..or when I hold those two knives..

Our loved ones will live in our hearts and minds forever..they never die..

Peace to you..we live forever..love never dies..

Thanks for the post. I hope I live to 84! Hopefully they had been a good 84 years... Because you can't ask for much more than that.

My grandfather died at 85 this year, he was an "ack-ack" gunner shooting down Japanese all over differant islands in the south pacific, then was an MP sent into Hiroshima just after the bomb dropped and they surrendered (Like Docc's dad he took a Brownie with him so we have great photos of him at ground zero and Japanese swords and guns he kept from the occupation). It is sad to see their generation die out, but on the other hand they left one hell of a glowing legacy. Sorry for your loss, but it is good to hear you got to spend time getting to know him.

Everytime a man or woman from that era p***es away, it feels like a little of myself dies along with them. I can never get over that,....I don't think I ever will.

With your father p***ing away, as a WWII vet, another of my heros left me,...because it is those who were of the greatest generation that I've always loved and admired,...always,...always will.

Our prayers are with you and your family. I lost my dear grandmother April 29 this year. it was unusually hard because she could have been my second mother,...she was always there,...I grew up almost as much with her as I did with my own mother. I only hope I can be as strong as she was right up untill the very end....a blessing to have lived around her presence.

I held her in my arms, cradling her like a child as she was dying of cancer the day before she p***ed away. She held me in her arms as a young child, I returned that love that day.

    God bless you and yours.

Thanks for your thoughts. Yes that generation was special. The men and women that served in the armed forces and the men and women that built the ships, panes etc, in factorys. The whole country came together. Thanks to them we are still free.
