These wheels and knock-offs belonged to my late husband. I would appreciate any help identifying what I have and advice on how to sell them. I hope I have correctly posted pictures. Please be patient with me if I haven't.
Rare set, looks like they will clean up fine, I would contact Don Waldron Rods West in Ridgecrest Ca., he is the wheel expert, Good Luck.
WOW! Heck of a first post. Those are not something you see much in a lifetime. I'm inclined to forgive the lack of intro, considering her situation. Denise, you might even get an offer or two just with the above. Roger
Pretty cool. Think those are 5 on 5.5 inch centers. Ford/Dodge. I'm familiar only from Ford interests. Not sure on the wheels, but the hubs and spinners are not common ... very hard to find. The wheels may or may not be special to the spinners. If memory serves ... I think one could use the wheels with or without the knock off spinner hubs. If one wanted lugs and just a cap, you could choose to do so ... in lieu of the knock off. May want to share your geographic area and I would imagine they would be worth the drive for those interested.
Tell me how I can determine what size the wheels are? I have very little knowledge (you can tell) about hot rod items.
The size is me***ured over the diameter, in whole inches. The width is pretty easy, Its the width of the rim, me***ured between the two edges of the rim, this can be in half inches. The bcd is bolt circle diameter is the distance between the holes that holds the wheels on to the hub. Would most likly come out like; 15X5.5 or 15X6 Acompanied by a second set of numbers: First didget is number of holes/bolts/nuts it takes to hold them on to the hub. The second is the distance between the holes, on a car with 5 bolts you should me***ure from out side of 1 hole, til the opposide side of the opposide hole. And should come out like 5X5.5, 5X4.5 or 5X4.25 There is no shame in not knowing, but Its a damn shame when people refuse to learn! You got the right at***ude. Regarding value, I have a NO idea. Regarding venue to sell, try here there is bound to be some takers on here! Ansen is a respected produceret, with many followers. Could bump up the price.
Denise,You dont say where in Ok;a you are located....If I were you, I would take one of the wheels and hub adaptors to a reputable tire shop..They could possibly tell you the application.....And dont go by some descriptions here to help you identify they yourself...they are incorrect.. It would also benefit you to know what car your husband had them mounted to..year and model
After some digging around the web, I most confess I believe them to be Ansen Automotive engineering (AAE) Apollo wheels and matching knockoff hubs. According to other they are most likely to be 15 inch, but is available in 14 also. They are also most likely to be 5X5.5 pattern. Can be run as knockoff on the hubs or straight up on a 5x5.5 bcd hub.
Denise, you may be surprised at how valuable those turn out to be since as you say you are not a hot rodder yourself. I would recommend that you get a few opinions on value before selling if that's your intent. I'd hate to see someone take advantage of you.
If they are truly 15 inch and are 5 inches wide or narrower, I'm interested in 2 of them. Especially if they are 5.5 lug pattern. Since you have 6, selling a pair and a set of 4 might be smart.
It appears there are two different sizes, or at least offsets. The top left and right wheels have a wider (but matching) outer rim section compared to the other four. What say guys?
************************************************************ I noticed that, too. It almost looks like someone modified those two. I can't quite make out whether those are scratches or a weld bead. Roger
Find a reputable local car guy who buys and sells. You know the type, honest to a fault. Give him 10% to sell them for you.
I'd recomend talking to member Guffey about them. Mike is very knowledgeable about these, and may have an intrest in them. They are pretty rare, and quite desirable.
Thank you guys for all the great feedback. My husband had these for over 30 years and they "might" have been on one of the cars he built but I don't remember. He always said I would use them one day to make house payments so I appreciate the suggestion that I should be wise in selling them. I will also contact the member that was suggested. As to a local tire/wheel guy, I asked some men at church where I could get advice and no one seemed to know of anyone. I will keep asking. I am posting more pics where I've tried to measure to better show you the size. I wasn't sure on any of them if I was supposed to measure inside or outside diameter. As one of you noted, two of the wheels have welding.
As stated earlier, Ansen Apollo with optional knock offs! Very cool, hope you connect with the right buyer. Ansen intro 3 65 by Phillips posted Nov 20, 2012 at 1:37 PM Ansen Ad 65 0 by Phillips posted Nov 20, 2012 at 1:52 PM Ansen Ad 65 by Phillips posted Nov 20, 2012 at 1:45 PM
Very nice set of wheels. Your measurements are pretty good. They confirm the 5 on 5-1/2" bolt circle and the 15" diameter. Width should be measured inside the edges. Looks like 15x6 on the sample you measured. Was that one of the four alike or one of the two that appear to have been widened? I haven't seen a set of 6 knock-off Ansen wheels and the hubs/spinners offered in a long time, if ever - a set of 4 now and then over the last 20 years.. They have some finite value but it's anyone's guess. I buy and sell wheels on a regular basis but these show up so rarely that I don't have a feel for what they are worth. They weren't made for long or in a wide variety of widths so they never were what I would call "popular". Their value lies in the rarity and potential to be used. That's just my point of view and there are a lot of people who collect wheels just to have them - maybe I fall in there a bit as I have a lot more wheels than I can personally use. They are worth a few "house payments" but that's a bit like measuring time in "furlongs per fortnight". Charlie
