Got a laugh out of 1 picture. The Gold Coast air cleaner with the giant black surf board sticking out of the trunk
I bet a lot of pictures got eaten up by photobucket when it crashed.... I remember like it was yesterday when McPhail walked into my garage and saw the Futurian for the first time he said "Man this thing is slick, Anthony's car is rough man" ... honest to god, first words out of his mouth. I have never seen it in person. I wonder at what point he decided to slice up the top so he wouldn't bake while using it
Oh dude... It was so rough... It was a shade tree bubbletop... and that's being generous. BUT, for the time and circumstance... it was just special that a new bubbletop had been built.
@Ryan Hey Ryan, have you seen the Shifters documentary that Dan Stoner put out? There some really good information and pictures in the movie.
Sadly, I haven't watched it yet... but have been meaning to do so... As soon as I get a chance, I will for sure...
https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-shifters-documentary-film.1287423/ @Ryan Here’s a link to the thread with the movie. It’s well done and worth watching
Personally I think it's kinda cool that there aren't more photos of it. Adds to the myth...and reminds me of the times when we were all more interested in having fun than watching the world through our cell phones, composing perfect images to prove we were there.
Here is what I sent to @Stoner for the Shifters movie being finished up after the 4 part series was done on YouTube. These are photos I took way back when. At the LA Roadster show
Great photos... Thanks for that. I was asked if the cut down bubble was a result of the bottle. I remember the bottle hitting right between the eyes and cracking the front... I think the cut down bubble was one of his early attempts that didn't work out, so he cut out the badly blown parts on the sides and was left with a "ventilated" bubbletop. I only rode in it for like 4 blocks with the full bubbletop, but I do remember it being hot as shit in that thing.
I drove the Road agent a couple of times when I owned it. It is like being under a magnifying glass......
The documentary was really good. Even tho many of us did not make it to the West Coast it was a fun time to be involved
Ryan, the first time I saw the Bubble top was at the LA Roadsters Fathers Day show. He drove it into the swapmeet where the rest of his buddies were setup. The bubble wasn't on the car, but was already there. It was set on the car as soon as it got there. Anthony had been up all night replacing a head gasket on the car. He used a used head gasket that was hanging on the shop wall. The next time I saw it was at Paso, maybe the weekend your talking about. I love the car, rough or not.
Anthony's Bubbletop aka "Brown Neck Bandito" is in my garage. The Shifters bought the car from his family, and it will stay with us forever. I am currently doing body work on the car, and after that, it will go to various member's shops for specific work. After that, the car will return , where I will be spraying it green metalflake. We would like to thank Chris Sage of Sage Speed and Custom for sponsoring a set of Tri Rib Radir Mags for the car. Gone but never forgotten
I remember the first time reading about this car! I hope if you guys "restore" it, you leave some of it's original soul intact...in his honor. Did Roth ever see the car?

When I see this car I always think about a photo that was snapped at – I think – a gas station on the edge of town somewhere. The subject of the photo was something else altogether – a couple of customs or hot rods in the foreground. But there in the background zipping past like a ghost is that bubbletop.
