I just get the green premixed and change it every ten or twelve years.

I use dehydrated water. Just mix a gallon of water with it and a gallon of antifreeze and good to go. ;)

  5. Don't those Canadians just piss you off? They could export more good Canadian whiskey to us, but nooooo.... they ship this cold shit to us!! Cruel suckers!!

I drank untreated well water into my 20’s, hasn’t killed me yet. Tasted much better than the city water I have now.

retired from the cnc machine parts world. us vs asian vs european coolants used in keeping the machine screws constant temp. just as bad as the auto market. and the make up of machine oil used is another story. nothing is simple. too many guys with train hats, aka engineers.

  10. It probably depends where you are,,,,,,,,my old Daddy has well water .
He had it tested by the state,,,,,he had to when he had it drilled.
The state report said it was perfectly clean .

The old guy running the drilling rig went down 142 feet,,,,,,hit water and put a casing in there .
Daddy said you could hear water running when leaning down over the hole .

Yeah,,,,,those Canadian people are pretty tough indeed .
That’s what makes them good hot rodders .

Like in the US, it depends on where you live.
I mean all our tap water is perfectly drinkable, but the mineral content can be way different from region to region.
In my workshop I have only pretty hard well water from the tap, so I used bottled water to fill my radiator most of the time.
After digging deeper into that - now I tend to get me some distilled water for the next fill up.

  12. I’ve lived on well water since 1986. I use the premixed ELC we have at work and don’t give it a second thought. We don’t have cooling system problems in customer’s vehicles, so I don’t anticipate any in my stuff.

530,000 miles on an OT truck. Since day one it only got 50/50 mix by me, with distilled water. Still clean as new inside. Only changed once when rad cracked. Rest of time gets top off when repairs are made.

i also agree with others. Why pay 13 for premix when full strength is 15. Gallon of distilled is 1.30. But I’m a cheap ass lol.

    merry Christmas all.

    Thoughts:
Removing 1-2 gallons each year and replacing with fresh.
    Versus.
Waiting 5 years to drain it all and replace.

Water we get here is everything y'all have dumped on the ground and pissed in up north, pulled in from the Mississippi river. Gee thanks.

I run 50/50 premix yellow ethylene glycol. Runs just fine in winter as it does summer though it does have a habit of cleaning out all the dirt that would otherwise be blocking up all the small leaks.

I've seen older glycol make a mess of alloy parts (thermostat housings, heater valves etc) but only where it's not been changed fairly regularly, maybe every couple years or so. It eats into the pores of the metal and turns it into crusty white/yellow crystalline trash.
I can only guess that the chemical balance changes, maybe the pH as it ages?

So, the same as any liquid in a car, change it before it degrades and it'll likely be more reliable.

My vehicles handle the first part of this for me. I assume it is by design. All I have to do is the 'replacing' part. The motor oil seems to work this way as well.

I put the green stuff that will kill your cat if they drink it and good old tap water.
the only thing to worry about regarding antifreeze and cooling is you must have it with an aluminum head/iron block or your aluminum head will get ate up.

Not to start an argument but, our water softener system does leave enough sodium in the water that we cannot use that water on the house plants. They will die. All of our outside water faucets are plumbed off the main before it gets to the softener.

You need to understand there are different types of well water via region.
I’ll leave it at that and let you research it, because I already know, but am not an authority so won’t go on:)

  24. There is no argument, just a lack of awareness, understanding and basic schooling.

Just think of what it does for those with hypertension ...

  25. I put millions off miles on green stuff.
Put a lot on just water
When working as a tech, I installed whatever the manufacturer recommended. We were a European specialist and had fluids from the manufacturer in stock.
The only issue I remember is the goofy gm orange.
My radiator manufacturer recommended pre-mixed or full strength with distilled water.
I remember getting bottles of Bar’s stop leak with Walker radiators. Mr Walker said it’s wasn’t for leaks but to condition the cooling system and lubricate the water pump.
I don’t know but I’m not a radiator builder scientist.

we can sometimes worry ourselves over things. Driving is the best preservative for a car
They deteriorate driving or not anyway.

So let me understand your educated point of view, all well water mixed with coolant is a sure sign of engine death and corrosion?
I really want to know, as the class on well water was probably one of the ones I skipped.

  28. Well, the class on wells was most likely a little deep for you.

You have read exactly what I have posted. Wether you can understand the how and why is obviously questionable.

Try iron, magnesium, arsenic, hydrogen sulfide and a host of others. How do you think (?) the water jackets shown above became blocked with sediment(s)?

As for skipping classes, you seem to have done a lot of that.
