Hot Rods ANTIQUE Engine Class @ Nostalgic Drags???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Skotz, Feb 28, 2012.

  1. See my notation about "dialing in your fastest time", no fricking brakelights......Yes, I too would prefer a Heads Up....just doesn't seem to be working at the places that I show up at.....dangit.....

Sure hope you're not lumping me in on your "stupid" list(I don't like brackets, "as they are presently run", either!!!!)

  2. Now this looks like a Fun Event.....I literally, just put it on my calendar.....just in case I can pull it off:D

Now can you pm me about "Kinnamon and his Flying Flathead" contact info.....I'd appreciate it!

Thanks for the Heads up.....(pun intended)

Besides the dragster, Kinnamon has a blown flathead model a coupe that is street driven. Last time I talked to him, he was building another stroker flathead that was suppose to be bigger and better for the dragster. He said if the new motor turns out better, the dragster engine is going in the coupe.

The dragster currently runs low 10s. I don't believe the coupe has broken into the 12s... but still VERY respectable for a flathead street hot rod with overdrive. He is about as clever as they come and does everything himself, including making the blower manifolds on his mill.

Nah i'm not hoping to offend anybody. I'm just frustrated. I like cars. I like flatheads, nailheads, hotheads, SBCs, BBCs, 289s, etc. I just want a return to racing. I'd rather lose a close heads up race than win a bracket race. In heads up racing you don't have a dial in. Index racing is another oxymoron. Index racing is simply allowing someone else to pick your dial in.

Skot... HAMB Drags dude. It's the best the traditional drag race in the country. Seriously. You need to come out.

    ....

As for classes, I get what you are saying about the digger vs. street driven coupe. It would be crazy... But, it's not about winning an event right? You get the classes loosely assembled and then open the strip to each class. Open sessions... Grudge matches.

I don't think there needs to be a whole lot of organization... Just run em and have fun. Screw trophies and winning and all that stuff...

  6. Yep Ryan thats what Eagle field is all about run what ya brung and run who wants to run you no trophies no money no bullshit just good fun and old time racing if you want to............from an old time racer Rocky who puts his time and energy int a great event for us ol farts and there a lot of HAMB dragsters there each year.......

That's how we operate the Meltdown. Our club classes each car at tech loosely based on 60s NHRA tech. A/FX, Gas, Altered, Dragster, Super Stock, Stock, and Hot Rod. Hot Rod class is kinda the catch all for cars that don't appropriately fit the other classes or for guys that want to race their street hot rod against another street hot rod.

Each class gets its own staging lane. So, spectators see all gassers running together, then all the altereds, then Super Stock... etc. We allow cars to jump between classes for grudge races, but typically they just race cars that are a good match in their class. With the racing being heads-up and find your own match, it makes for some pretty close races. No 12 second car wants to run a 9 second car.

Ryan, I have been wanting to make it to the HAMB drags for several years now. It looks like a fantastic event and I hear and see great things about it. I was able to drive to the Hot Rod Revolution this year. My girlfriend and I had a blast in Austin.

Skotz, I believe your coupe was amongst the royalty. am I correct?

  8. Skotz, we put on a Flathead/Inliner race here in Phoenix every spring and have had a wide variety show up.The newest vehicle has been a 72' maverick with a built 250" six to coupes with straight 8s' flathead feds' and even anglias with blown flatheads,Most fun I"ve ever had is hanging out with these guys for a weekend.Maybe a couple of classes say one for the Flathead/inliners and another for the older V8s'.

  13. Look back at what was originally laid out.....I put the Packard design in as an "Antique" engine.....that thing was all old technology and design and heavy to boot:rolleyes:.....plus how many folks are scrambling to put a Packard in thier cars....I know of one:eek:....hahaha
I know "some" folks will say "see there, it's too new"....but I'm just trying to suggest something that "might work"......I think there are problems with things as they are.....I have even heard that about the HAMB drags.....dunno, maybe I'm just trying to stir some people up, since "Casey" isn't around to do it anymore....see what happens when I check back on the HAMB and this little message pops up and says that "I ought to post something".....hahaha

Like your avitar....Hot Rods and aeroplanes....good combination

what about the HA/GR class you runcan flatheads there ryan started that in 2005 also inthe current issue of nitro madness mag their is a article on HA/GR

  15. My FED doesn't fit into the HAMB Dragster class(have to sit in front of the rear axle, no slicks, no blowers, no alky/nitro, no injectors, etc, etc)...I wanted to build a "faster" Dragster.

I actually have a car on the jig that "could" fit into the class, but presently, I am in the "want to go faster mode"...."it's a sickness", I've heard:rolleyes:

  16. shit Skotz all I'm lookin for is a place to run my flattie and enjoy myself.........
thats all its really all about in the long run and against equal flatties is a real bonus.....

  17. Carl,
I agree with you.... as to my preference it would be Flatheads only.....there just doesn't seem to be many of them around Central Texas....but hopefully some more will be coming out of the woodwork. I need to get the contact info for Don with the twin engine Fiat and the guy up Dallas way that is running a red Bantam Roadster....maybe we can come up with our "own little group:cool:"

Since you are in that "way west state" I would think that there would be quite a few(for Flatheads:rolleyes:).....shoot fire, that place is the Mecca for racing

Looking forward to meeting up with you some day soon

  19. "Rumors" have come my way, saying that the Day of the Drags is considering using a form of the "Antique Engine Class" rules:).....I, of course am thrilled at the prospect of "MORE" old timey cars/engines actually getting out there and having the thrill of running down the track amongst thier peers(and NOT against Hot Rod Bill:eek:!!!.....hahaha)

Kathy.....that means a place to run Tuffy down the track again:cool:.

And all of you others that have a car with an "obsolete" engine....you may feel at home joining us:D.

Again, it's only a rumor......BUT, if a bunch of you that "LIKE" the idea:D, chimed in.....it could only help bolster the idea.....(now, as to you "nasayers".....shhhhhhh, let us "fall on our faces"....then..... you can tell us "I told ya so"......or not.....HAHAHA)

Hi Skotz, just saw this thread come up again and had to touch base with you. Sure wish this would come to fruition. You all decide on the rules.....I'll build a car within the rules. I'd like to see regional Hamb races. With this many members and tracks just begging for crowds. It just looks like a natural thing to me.

Count me in for Day of the Drags. One car maybe two. Flatheads of course.

  24. Now here ya go Folks....Don will bringing at "minimum" a TWO Engine(Flathead, of course) Dragster....Well worth the admission, just to check out this piece of machinery.....and he's got it running quite well.....so well, that "I'm having to finish building my new engine, just so I can go faster"...."NEXT YEAR:rolleyes:".....hahaha. Don has "raised the bar" in our little Flathead world....he's doing the driving....and that's Cool:cool:, in my book!

There are a few Flathead powered cars that hopefully will make DOTD the "hot spot" for the year.

I'll call Jack Hofstettler in Plano with the Blown Flathead Altered, also.....Anybody talked to Jim Jard with his Flathead Rail, lately?

    Lets keep um coming:D

We are working on a new class system for the DOTD this year that will be based loosely on indexes and dial in's and not so much on body style of car w/in each class. Trying to make it a little more even in each class. There will be at least one vintage engine class also. Still working out the kinks. Showtime will be Oct 5 & 6, 2012 Little River-Temple Academy Dragway
