Whoes going to the Antique Nationals? I'm a member of the Four Ever Four Car Club, the guys that put on the get together. I also sponser the trophy for Best "rat Rod" of the show. I do it because I like you guys and your cars and want to make you welcome there. I know some clubs and car shows may not appretiate your efforts but I lovem'. I DRIVE a '30 roadster dark blue, black fenders with a Miller overhead banger with two Winfield carbys. Hopped up 30's style. '39 trans with Zephyrs. Red Kelseys. And I don't own a f'in trailer. I'm at the gate when you come in. If ya see me say hi. Ok my question is; I know "rat rod" can be a sensitive term. I don't give a rat's ass about being politically correct but, I'd like to find a name for the trophy that is kinda agreeable to most. Any suggestions? See ya there!
How about a simple term like "Hotrod"? It's what they are or aspire to be. The antique Nationals really seperates the hotrods from the not so-hotrods. I'll see you there in my 33 Ford Pick up. Drive in, race, drive home, Hotrod style!
Thanks Shag. I've seen ya there and the CHRR. Lookin' forward to seein' ya again. Stop and say hi. Don
Any thing but 'rat rod', I HATE those two words. I hope the trophy is a pinion gear(or two) missing some teeth.
Yea, "rat-rod" will cause problems. I personally hate the phrase. I wouldn't be offended by it, but it's just a gay phrase IMO. I mean most of us are just guys building cars in various stages of completion (put that on a trophy, lol). I don't think we're building them in a "rat-rod" style because we have big budgets and they are the "in" thing. Some of us are building on low budgets and most of our cars change little by little. In fact I would bet that we'd all like a "finished" car just as well as the next guy. If you poke around you'd find that many of us have cars with shiny paint too. And we don't aspire to build shitty looking cars we aspire to build very basic, fundamentally raw, Hot-Rods. If you want to pin a term to it we are just traditionalists. We want 'em to be done in the same style and with the same parts as the folks who started the whole hobby off - using our own blood sweat and tears to do it. "Best Traditional Rod" ? And please give it to the best car - you don't have to pick a rust bucket just to "keep it real". If there is a shiny Hot-Rod with good welds and arrow straight body-work for god's sake give the guy a trophy. Maybe, if you REALLY want to give an award to a car that has "patina", give two awards and call one the "Bad-Ass" award, lol. But hey, the guy driving the rust-bucket will have fun just in the drive to the show and later that night when he passes out in his own piss and vomit. He ain't worried about it and he damn sure won't lose any sleep over it. But hey I am not the spokesman for this site or it's users. If everyone else likes the term and wants a Shitbox(TM) or Shot-rod(TM) to win the "rat-rod" award go right ahead.
"ratrod" is the new "gay." I wouldnt miss the antique nats even if I knew the entire Hooters waitress staff was popping extacy and were giving away free guinness! I'll hopefully be catching a ride with someone, or parking something imported of mine in the far end of the parking lot
how about the hot rawd award .......... best bare bones........ just put a big question mark on it.........fuck it ....rat rod...being p.c. sucks you cant please everyone, hell you givin a trophy how pissy they gonna get?
"Neo-Traditional Hot Rod", is what i like best for the correct terminology. Neo meaning "NEW" and Traditional meaning "OLD". any takers for this?.
