I want to make a tapered tube for my twin cam inliner valve cover similar to this gently tapered cooling tube pictured. I've also seen tapered tubes like that to hold the spark plug wire loom. I like the look and think it will complement the look of my tapered exhaust manifold nicely if I use one to route my spark plug wires down the middle of the valve cover.. Does anybody know of a source for a thin wall, gently tapered tube like this? I remember an old bathroom sink we had with gently tapered plated brass legs - wish I'd saved one. The bottom picture is of the engine it is going on so something around 24" long 1 1/4" big end, 3/8" small end would be nice. Any ideas? Thanks.

  4. Find one of those old formica topped kitchen tables from the '50's. Might even find a chrome one.
I've got one that has 28" long legs that taper from about 1 1/4" down to about 5/8". They were once chrome plated.

Kitchen tables from the seventies or eighties, steel chair legs likewise but they might be too small.

Fifties and sixties were usually straight chrome tubing, besides they are expensive antiques now. You still find seventies kitchen furniture in scrap bins.

Why not look around a few junk yards, you never know what you will find.

Relic stew, I didn't think of bicycle frame components. Now my cycling buddies are gonna wonder why I've started carrying a hack saw on our group rides. I'll search around. Thanks.

Cadillacoffin, Thanks for the article link. If I have to I'll do it that way. It is quintessentially the way I did my exhaust cone, using .070 stainless. Whew, there went a day of my life I'll never get back. I had difficulty in gettiung a consistently round section with no warpage.

Choffman41 and Rusty O'Toole, I'm looking around for one of those tables or chairs. Thanks

    Any other ideas?

I thought I'd update this old thread since I started it and want to put some closure on it. I fould some old scrap table legs that worked perfect. I repurposed one into a spark plug wire holder.
