Hey Bumpstick, your Merc is way too Kool!! I'm starting a new Mercury foundation called "Save A Merc." This is for the Mercs that have been abandon, basket cases and to the ones that need some attention or correction. The first step is to admit that the Merc has a problem. A good friend of mine originally built my Merc years ago for my brother in law. My friend had a somewhat of a bad vision and built the Merc his way. Years after the build I got the opportunity to purchase the Merc for a price that I couldn't say no. Since that time, I've been in the process of making it my own and my plan for this winter, I'll have the front end corrected. If you look at the before and after you will see that its going in the right direction. Most of the Mercs on list I believe are kool and I would be proud to say that it was mine. To set back and say that this should be called "parade of the ugliest Mercs" is not kool. I'm a Kustom Fan and enjoy the Mild to Wild and even the radical kustoms. The reason I have a passion for kustoms, they are no rules and the only limits is our own imagination. This is why I've always admired Bill Hines and Darryl Starbird. Like the guys above, they were willing to try something different. I applaud their efforts. Happy Trails, Mick Below is the first member of "Save a Merc." The picture was taking ten years ago....The front wheel drive wheels & that 70's van looking front spoiler UUUUGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Ooh! youza slingin it taday, Bumpstick! Is the Plexi in your backlight jus till ya locate some glass, or is the rear opening no longer OEM?, jus nosey.
Mick, where do I sign up? I dig where you're going with your merc. I thank you and the custom world thanks you. I didn't mean to put all the hard work that went into some of these cars down, just mourn the loss of some very rare body parts. I have a passion for customs too but when "imagination" is used at the expense of subtlety I get a little crazy. Square lights on a round car do not make a custom. Hell, Barris's (George) later 50's customs suffered from "imagination" run amok too. To me a custom is about enhancing an already good design. Look at Sam Barris's first merc. He knew when to stop. Sorry if I pissed anyone off (Primer). Sometimes I just can't keep it in. Pimpin', It's a 1949 rear window.Temporary 'plexi' backlight I have a '49 3-piece that will go in when all welding/primer/paint is done. Ah, who am I kidding. IT'S NEVER DONE! -stick
Barris built this 1950 4 door Merc for Jerry Reichman same picture but a bit sharper, unfortunately it does not show the whole car. The other Merc in the first two photo's is Bill Bush's 1950 Merc fordor... which was not chopped. Both four door Mercury's had very nice detail like rounded door corners etc.
Thanks to all for the replies.Rikster,I checked out your website.WOW.Thats a kool site.Liked the Carson top section, must have read it over a dozen times!Anyone else checked it out?
