I thought some HAMBERS may find these early70's pics. intresting and I wish that they were more clear and that I had taken more shots.Taken in 1972 in my hometown of Piqua,Oh. the 27 roadster you see belonged to a friend Lester Z...Lester lived in Calif. Pre 70's, moved to Ohio and brought the 27 with him..I recently tried to contact him to get more history on the roadster but havn't had much luck at that for now..I do know he bought it just the way you see it and I don't know what part of Calif..It had a black 1963 Calif.license plate No.SIA 801 and I still have that plate...It had the Flathead w/ all early ford running gear, dropped axle, all the cool stuff, all steel of course..Lester sold the roadster to another friend (Steve T.) who took it all apart to build a track roadster but that hasn't happened yet..Steve still has the roadster after all these years and I'm sure he always will until (well you know) cause Steve never sells anything!!...Anyway I just thought it would be cool if someone on the left coast or anywhere might recognize this piece of history... The 47 Chevy(tow car) in the pics. was mine at that time..It was black when I first got it..I traded a 63 chevy II for it..It very well could have been one of a kind with an all 1957 327 Hudson eng. auto.tranny, rear end, radiator, swing brake pedal and more...That was the way it was when I got it..That 47 would really fly with the Hudson eng..Oh..I didn't tow the roadster from Calif..I was just helping Lester tow it to our shop we had at that time.....
Hi there The First car that came to my mind was Andy Southard JRs`old ride ... ( He sold it in `56 ) Klaz
Yes I agree..It's always made me think of Andy Jrs. roadster also...which I'm almost sure was green at one time.... Thanks BLKTOPBANDIT for your help w/ the pics!!
no problem, that one photo looks like the negative was reversed. (steering wheel on wrong side). i did not notice that till now. check the original. anyhow, sure would be cool to get ahold of that car...
I don't know anything about the 27 but the picture provided of the green RPU is perfect for my RPU build up. Good luck on your search. B-Frz
Yes, buy Hot Rods of the 1950s by Andy Southard Jr. and he's got a few shots of his old RPU both in the green color and when it was white or pale yellow. It's a nicely done car.
