If so, how do you do it? I was thinking how nice it would be to have a clubhouse for our club but is there any way to do it without spending a fortune and a lot of hassle?

  2. One short answer for this.....no....

property taxes, upkeep, utilities, insurance are four really good reasons not to have a clubhouse.

Our clubhouse is paid for and the yearly budget for the four above mentioned items runs over $5,400.00 per year.

If you all get along well now, watch what happens when you all realize that your club must now function like a business and $$$ is involved

You could rent a place....$500-$1500 (or more) per month though. Who pays for that?

We are fortunate enough that MarkX let's us hang out in his shop for club stuff.

I recently suggested renting a chunk of my shop to my club to build a club car ...I would pay the .70 per foot (less than $150/month) every month and when the car was finished we would sell it and pay back everyone that worked on it. Sounded good in theory until you realize the same 4 guys that actually build shit do all the work and everyone gets to reap the benefits. Then I hear there's grumbling about the fact that I'm not donating the space to the club....fuck,I'm losing money if that space isn't making me a profit.......sorry to rant a little but if there's money involved and more than 2 people you will probably have problems.
Now if you have a small tight club I would say what the hell...go for it! Just remember someone will need to be the guy on the lease and get insurance (sometime homeowners will cover a hobby space...and get a million dollar umbrella policy just in case) One car a year will pay for the space if it's not too pricy. Oh yea...it's everyone on board or else...most of the guys in my club already have garages and work at home so noone wants to kick down cash on a monthly basis. Also you need to figure out what to do for rent money when one or two guys don't have it.....who floats the rent? Someone needs to until your club makes something to pay the rent.....rent party maybe?!!!!

I have a big house and 5 Car garage on a 50 acre lot that my brother and I rent.

When the club needs something or has to work on something they either bring it out here, or to My buddy Tonys shop, who is also in the club.

We are a very small club, consisting of mostly family members, so it makes it a little easier on us.

And most of the guys have their own shops or garages to work on stuff in too...

good luck on your club house!

Our clulb has an old club house that we've been in since 1957. It's an old building but with virtually every tool known to man; mig welders, tig welders, plasma, metal breaks, shears, band saws etc etc. It holds 4 cars under construction in the front with room for 5 cars in the back garage. Monthly dues pay for rent, heat, hydro, phone etc. One of Canada's oldest clubs with approx 25 members.
