I have to change the headlights out to 12vt anyways So I thought I'd ask if you guys know of any Cool looking headlights That will work on my 55? I saw some on Ebay that were ok but i didnt like the turn signal inside the light that it had. It doesnt have to look original I kinda like things that are different maybe LED's ? What have you guys done? I cant french them because im not that talented and dont have the toold to do that.
Whatever you do, be sure you've planned ahead to be sure that any changes you make will fit within the theme of the finished car. This is the forward-looking perspective that makes Custom Crestline's Victoria the standout it is. He set a time period, selected a theme, made his mods strictly within that theme and the result is an outstanding custom car. Best of all, he didn't have to do everything twice. If you have not done your homework yet, go with easily-obtained, brand name halogen sealed beams. They are as good as it gets as far as providing light, and will fit into any theme you might select in the future. In my humble opinion, avoid "trendy" stuff like LEDs, tri-bar headlights, chrome headlight "eyelids", turn signal/headlight combinations, chrome spider web overlays, etc. When the trend wears off - and it surely will - you'll be back in the market for headlights again. Same advice for other trendy parts. Just my $.02 CC's headlights? '60s-period Lucas-style lamps which were very popular for a very short period of time...a very nice, period-correct touch on his car, but one which would be tacky on a car of any other time period.
i have to agree with missysdad, stay away from the led, tri bar, and spiderweb stuff. however, lucas lamps are an absolute killer. not great for a car theat is driven on dark county roads alot, they are more of a flood lamp, but great around town. just my $.02
My outfit had the old wiring and connections in it for the lights - green gunk - insulation falling off - and really dim lights. needed new connectors just to plug in the bulbs. If you don't change the whole harness out - consider rigging yours up to run off relays like a modern car. That way the power doesn't have to be routed through all of the switches on the dash - and the dimmer, etc.
I use the good ole regular headlamps by Westinghouse ! I do have the chrome 1/2 that cover the upper part of the headlamp to make them look like chrome in the sunlight but check your laws before you do change the headlights ! some states are pickier than other . Pa won't let us use the "Blue Dot" on the tail lights ! Honestly have no idea why either ! Jim
I've seen guys use late model Harley-Davidson m/c headlights on '50's era cars. They have HD logo medalion in the center of the lens. Check them out.
Like These would be Very Cool but way too expensive... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Adju...rcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c19813f64
does anybody know if they make a high/low beam headlight for 5 inch headlights, im putting quad headlights in my merc and i like the look of all the headlights working not just low beams working.
Hey Merc-o-madness This is what I did on my 58 Chevy. I bought four aftermarket 5 inch HID head lights. Then I took my original t-3 head light put then in the oven at 350 till the glue that holds them together got soft. I split the two halfs apart. I did the same with the new HID head lights. I cleaned the t-3 lens and with clear urethane glue I put the t-3 lens on the HID back. Now I have the old original look of the t-3 head light with the modern HID light. They put out a light beam just like a BMW or M-BENZ.....With a extra relay in place I can run all four at the same time. YOU TALK ABOUT LIGHTING THE ROAD UP..... I also did sets of 7 inch for my 54's,55 fords.
im kinda looking in the direction of an original colored light, im not looking to brighten up the road just doing it all for looks, neat tech otherwise, maybe i willl just drill out the back and plug a newer style bulb in place
