I just put a 62 390 and cruiso in a 66 LTD. The 62 was a floor shift model and the 66 is a coloum.Question is the shiftlevers on the trans are different.Floor model lever is on top and the coloum is on bottom. I went to take off a spare one on a later trans and damn I think I gotta pull the pan to get it off.Must be clipped or bolted inside.Do you have to take out the vlvbody also? I need to change them cause it reverses the shift pattern-low is park.
    HELP!!! -Feder

According to my 62 ford shop manual shows the levers attached with 2 nuts, a small nut for the inner kickdown lever & a larger nut for the manual control. When I say inner/outer I mean the kickdown portion is inside the manual control where it goes thru the trans case. You have to drop the pan but not the valve body. Use caution that the detent ball& spring don,t fly out when you take it apart. I know 63's floor shift******* levers have 2 holes, the one at the end of the long part that points back & down(for the floor shift) and a hole at the top towards the front like the column shift only cars

This can be done in the car w/ a little patience. The detent spring & ball ARE gonna come out no matter what you do. Best is to remove valve body first tho.Get new linkage in and lined up, then use a piece of brake tubing w/ the flair part pushing up on the ball & spring to reinstall it.Kinda messy job, but can be done.Dave
