There was a thread on this a while back and I thought, "That's silly and a waste of money." We had to go to several different toy stores the other day for my little girls first b-day. I thought, well, I'll just got back and look around at the little silly cars.........see pics...... If I can't make it to Paso, Billetproof or any of the other traditional hot rod show; and since our local shows aren't that great, I'd have a car show of my own..... All these cars came cruizing in the other night.......check em' out.....I think one of Roth's cars or George's cars showed up......nice turn out! You know, I thought that when I got into this hot rod stuff, it was just about the cars...nothing else........you guys suck! My wife like it when we play cruise-in. She gets mad when I won't let my little gril play with them...hahaha EDIt: we cruise around here 24/7.........stop by some time
Talk about the ultimate job for a car guy! Just curious, after a design has been completed, how long does it take for the cars to finally come off the production line? Those cars have lots of parts and it seems like alot of tooling to make.
The DM '32 Highboy is cool in that you can display it lakes style (no headlights or windscreen, removable Moon discs on the wheels, helmet and goggles on the seat) or in a typical street style, with DuVall-style windscreen and full headlight bar. The street version is reviewed here. If you're building a Bonneville display, DM has just released a dry lakes Model T hot rod, complete with caked-on salt on the wheels, salt spray on the body, tonneau cover, tow bar, etc., and amazingly detailed quad 97s. Go here for a review w/photos. They also just released an Altered T Dragster -- see it here.
Yeah... like I said... in progress. The T is going to be on order... The 32 is lakes style with tonneau cover in place! Its a sickness...
It depends on the detail of the car. Our Muscle Machines don't have interiors, so it's basically just the exterior of the car. Once the working model has been given the green light, we should see some production samples in 4-6 weeks. Sean
tHOSE hIGHWAY 61 roadsters are pretty cool, I scored a couple at the importers sale last year for a good price, the 2 4 banger ones, the V8 I gave a miss as I felt the duvall screen was too chunky, other then that they were pretty cool, will have to watch out for his sale again this year.
I know its not traditional. But how about some GS (GSX) or any A models. Also some of the 50's Buick or the 63-65 Riv.
Those are really impressive lead times. Before CAD became so well integrated into the design process, it used to take me that long to get simple pressure formed plastic parts. I had to chop up these early 1/18th Ertl die casts to have anything worth putting on the mantel. Diecasts then were mostly stockers. With all the cool stuff you guys are putting out now, there's almost no need to do that anymore.
MBTex - We might have one or two of those coming down the pike. mikes51 - Nice photos! Those are very impressive, anymore photos? Sean
Is that Muscle Machine 32 in your pic out yet? I want one of those bad boys! On the DM thing...why, oh why has their never been any more 32's and why no hot rod A's? I would have thought for sure that the So Cal 32, or the Shine 32 (or Shines truck while I am at it), or the Rad Rods by Troy 32 (or Chicayne once again while I am at it), or something cool like that would have been given the DM treatment or at least somebody else would do them. DM needs to do an east coast low boy also IMHO.
I have a couple of them. They look really good. I picked them up for about $40 each. Leave them attatched to the base or build a structure to hold them up as the front suspension looks about as fragile as the 60s Revell Stone\Woods\Cook Willys set up. If you don't mind working on a model in that price range, some detail work would bring them above Auto Art quality. I will buy more.
Here is some of my stuff. I took a couple of my salt display for Cab and there is the 36 Danbury Mint convert that I customized (was stocker that I bought off of Ebay) Its satin yellow with an Offy headed flatty Then there is my new fancy curio cabinet... the Merc on the bottom left was striped by Barnett!
If I could plug myself I'd never leave the house! (ok, that came out wrong...) I'll be the dick and ask.... "any H.A.M.B. discounts?" I could use the 1/6 scale HEMI and the Winged Express... and thats without even looking at another page... (like I said, its a sickness...)
I'm not a big collector of die cast,,,but I got a cool hiboy 33/34 ford coupe that has the ol' hot rod look! HRP
I collect some 1/18 Hotwheels,Ertl etc. A few 1/24.My real passion is 1/64-Hotwheels (especially the higher quality ones) Revell did some "Rat Rods" that were awsome,Johnny Lightning,ERTL,Racing Champs ,all 50's custom and rod related.I have an on- going diorama with shops of Barris,Roth ,Winfield, Watson etc.and club garages and a drive in.Some day I'll finish it.
Merc - The 1/18 scale '32 Ford Muscle Machine is out now. It's a model kit so you put it together (very easy, no glue - just screws), and it comes with a matching 1/64 roadster. Sean
