Any Difference Running Straight or Progressive On a Blower?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 345 DeSoto, Apr 17, 2011.

  1. Got 2 bone Stock Carter 500 CFM Competition Series Carters on my blown 291 Hemi. Am about to put them back on after going through them for this year. I ran them progressive last (first year) year and am kicking around the idea of running them straight this year. I have them both set up to idle, but I'm wondering if there is any advantage to running them straight...other than adding to the Oil Companies profits. I THINK the fuel distribution might be better, but I hear so much stuff about running them one way or another, that it confuses me. I know one HAMBer said that running his straight woke up his blown Hemi, But I'm just wondering about the BEST setup to use. Thanks, guys...

  2. I just picked up some AFBs myself and wondering the same thing. I had thought it would be easier to run them progressive and only use a choke on one of them. I would also not have to worry about the secondariess opening at the same time and the metering rods moving at the same time.

  3. Anybody on the night crew?...

I tried to run progressive when I first put my blower motor together and fought a light throttle stumble for weeks...I finally hooked them up straight and the diffrence was night and day.

Now, after doing some pretty extensive dyno testing, I know that even at low RPMS and part throttle one carb wasn't gonna cut it. My advise is to hook em up straight.

    Good luck, -Abone.

  5. Thanks, Abone. You were the one I was refering too. Did you do any Dyno testing progressive, or straight only. Funny thing is, I'VE got the same stumble...

I would suggest you running them staight, the only down fall is your cubic inch is so small, but it should work fine with two 500's
