Any First time hot rodders???? Questions???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by skipstitch, Feb 23, 2005.

  1. Great thread..I'm definately a rod "virgin"! I just got my first project, '54 Bel Air 2 door sedan, last spring. I have been diving into all the magazines and books I can find on '50's to '60's customs. I stumbled across a word I was curious about while reading, what does "Peaked" mean for the hood? I am familiar with frenching, nosed, shaved and decked, but "Peaked" I have never heard before.

Im a virgin as well...one thing I know is just never say the word Rat Rod..ahahha sorry but I had to. Anyway here is just a quick little question about lowering. My truck is already lowered a little (62 Unibody Ford F-100) by flipping the rear axle in the rear, dropped straight axle in the front.

1.) Could I C notch the rear without taking the whole body off? Its a Uni and that would be a bitch. Can I just cut a little of the bed out and C notch it there?

2.) How many leaf springs can you take out front and rear. My front looks as if all of them are there and I still have about 3-4 inches of travel before the bump stop. I cut my rear ones about an 1" so I could have some travel in the rear. Where do you get unsafe?

3.)Where the F&*% is Bin Laden.....

    Anyway great thread...thanks

you could probably do an "in frame notch" without removing the bed but itll be much harder the weld the inside of the frame.

i would only do 2 leaf springs.. Mono leaf is a horrible ride and bumpstops are only rubber and will wear away quick

Him and his old friend george bush are probably in texas somewhere counting there cash

hey great post! I am also a first time hotrodder. I've been looking at the HAMB for a few years now but havent posted much because I never had much to say.I just bought my first project (1930 ford standard roadster) and brought it home. As soon as I can get the pics loaded on my computer, i'll post about my trip to go get it. Ive started taking a few things apart to strip and clean them.

I guess my first question would be that one of the doors is out of square, it has been tweaked and if set on a flat surface, it rocks from corner to corner. how to i bend it back into being tru again?

    Thanks

If you have room you could turn the whole thing sideways and stuff it under the dash like I did, This leaves a clean firewall and you can still use your swing pedals.[IMG][IMG]
