Jesus! I just got raped by Ryerson Steel. I am new to the DFW area and have been trying to find a decent supplier for materials. Nobody wants to deal with a small shop and small quantities. The price difference between 20' of 1/4" x 6" 1018 CR flat and 10' of the same stuff was $4 per foot! I can't believe I'm paying $234 for ten feet of this stuff. In Georgia I used O'Neal in Atlanta and they were pretty fair. Price breaks at 100', 200', 500', etc. If they didn't have it, they brought it in from Birmingham then delivered for free 100 miles away regardless of the size of the order. O'Neal in DFW won't even do an order under $700. I've started ordering my solid rounds off ebay and am getting them delivered for less than half what the locals are asking. Are there any suppliers in the area that are worth a shit?
I don't know if this will help because it may be out of your area, but I know these guys deliver, so take it for what it's worth. For small stuff and short lengths, McMaster-Carr is pretty good. I'm not sure how far of an area that Davis Iron Works caters to but they are pretty good. I think the delivery is free over $300. They are out of Waco. 254-666-2100 (I think). Also Metals 2 Go in Waco is pretty good. A little out of your area, but they may deliver that far. I've used SouthWest Stainless out of Dallas before and they are pretty good if you are looking for stainless.

I usually get mine from local fab shops. They buy bigger lots, even with the mark-up it's still a deal for me. Plus a lot of the times they'll shear it, etc. for you too.
Garland steel Liberty metals American Steel Eagle steel dont have numberson had but your online,.... you can google them
From my experience, Eagle steel and Liberty have the best prices, with no minumum. The larger, long established places are now starting to put up some high minumum purchase rules. Thats cool, they dont get my money!!!
I get stuff here in Minneapolis from Discount Steel, they also have a Ft Worth location. Usually pretty helpful and prices seem ok. Remember prices on all materials have gone up, before you get too angry!
ryerson usually is a big volume industrial seller. better to find a mom& pop operation for small quantities
Yeah, well aware of how prices have gone up. A little over 50% since January. Still, the big industrial houses are out of line! I just got off the phone with Discount Steel in Ft. Worth. Placed the same order with them for less than half what Ryerson was charging. I will pick it up but the lady said it could be delivered for about $50. They also had everything in stock. With Ryerson, it would have been a week for them to pull it from out of state. And, Discount Steel was friendly; I'm not used to that. Thanks for the recommendations. You guys rock!
