Any HAMBers in Dubai?

I have been in Dubai the last 7 years. I have one friend thats and FNG on here but I was just wondering is there any more? Anyone into traditional hot rods over here?

 

I've got family and friends there but sad to say they're not car nuts!

I was there many times in '95-'98; we moored the USS George Washington in Jebel Ali.

Never saw any hot rods. In fact, the only American cars were either full-size Caddys or black Chevy Impala SS's.

 

We actually do allot of business there. We have inquiries all of the time for tube bender and metal shaping stuff

 

I have a buddy who is frequently there, and he is a car guy, but not a HAMBer. He is currently restoring an early 60's Thunderbird between international trips.

 

when are you starting school in CA again?

 

May I ask what has taken you there? Work? Military? That's just not someplace you decide to move to one day, or is it?

Hey they signed me up for June 28th. But I am in the process of changing it to September because I finish high school here June 7th and I need time to get a bitchin car and what not.

 

Well I am still in high school will graduate June 7th hopefully. But I am hear because my dad got a job here. I personally am not a big fan of it over hear. I miss the hot rods, kustoms, tattoos, girls, friends, shops, rockabilly, etc. from back home.

From what I have been told, there's a bad ass drag strip over there. Lots of American cars and oil money supported. Any truth to that?

 

The drag strip is in Umm Al Quwain which is another Emirate in the U.A.E. the track sucks and is the most worn down beat up peice of crap ever. They have a couple pro mods which I have not seen out in a while and a bunch of beat up Japanese cars. The track is a total joke.

Mitchell: I don't know of any HAMBers in Dubai, but I do have a Jordanian friend who lives in Dubai now and has a small collection of musclecars back here in the states; sadly he does not like traditional rods very much. I too have read of the Emirates Motorplex dragstrip and we've all heard of legends of street racing out in the desert for the wealthy that can afford supercars...Who knows? Maybe a little bit of hot rodding will spread like wildfire in Dubai...

I am invited there for a wedding... my friend drives Porsches and thinks that driving a Hot Rod in Dubai would be suicide... he suggests that I don't rent a car but that I should take a cab everywhere in that part of the world!

But if I can rent a TANK... that's a different story... Hahaha....!

 

I don't know man. I have seen a couple of billet hot rods in private collections but they don't get driven. I could never really see hot rodding catching on.

 

Good luck! You get used to the driving after a while. They just have no respect for other drivers here.

 

There are better drag strips in Qatar and Bahrain, and apparently better cars...hot rodding and drag racing are growing in most of the Gulf Arab countries.

I'll be in Dubai in late March, looking forward to it.

There is one in Doha, 1/8 mile built by Alinabi the shiek that owns the top fuels car and funny cars.Have not been there yet,but seen it on tv.Looks like a real nice facility.It is in the industrial area.

i visited for a day back in april 09,the palm is amazing,tallest building is very tall,,if they ever get the money to finnish the place it will great but it was just a big building site,didnt see any vehicles off interest

 

We considered moving there about 2 years ago (Tons of coin to be made $$$$$$)........but, now we have a little man to raise.

Alinabi has some sick shit have seen his stuff here. I have not seen him in a while here though drag racing is dying here.

 

As a matter of fact they just fineshed to today and had the grand opening with fireworks and shit.

 

Ya it's understood. My parents moved here for some coin. Also the schools are twice as better as back home. I improved 5 grade levels when I moved here it's insane most of the kids go to HArvard and shit. I am just going to be a happy welder though.
