    Seems most European styling of that era for smaller cars didn’t have splash aprons or looked sleeker/lower to the ground than their US counterparts.

    But notice the distance the rear fenders protrude past the body. The American style at the time featured far wider fenders, relative to the body — like the car in the pic. The European look at the time was more tucked-in. I think American cars of the day generally had wider tracks than European cars, because European roads were already well established and narrow.
