I'm having trouble finding any carriers who will ship a box that's 1'x3'x6' with a windshield inside. I've found someone with a used windshield for a 61 galaxie up in Montana for a good price but UPS, FEDEX, and USPS all say NO! Thinking about Greyhound bus lines maybe. I would think a freight carrier would be way too expensive. Any ideas or suggestions?

Call Auto City Classic-1-800-828-2212. They sell brand new windshields for your car tinted and shaded for $299.00.

Get a windshield box from your local glass installer and ship it greyhound.

Pay the extra for insurance. :p

  6. Aside from the size, once you tell them that big ass box contains glass, most will say no. If you dont tell them its glass, the insurance wont cover it anyway.

Could also use a two piece mirror box. Inner & Outer boxes.

All great ideas! I actually didn't tell anyone about it being a windshield until after they shot me down on dimensions alone. I did contact Auto City Classics (their shipping is $110.00 if delivered to a commercial address) and that's my next option but I told this guy with the used one I'd exhaust all efforts first to buy his. He actually still has a box and all the packing that his came in from Auto City Classics for his 62. I'm calling Greyhound in the morning!

Not a good idea at all!

It will get broken even if someone actually will ship it.

Any glass installer will not install a used windshield unless you agree that they are not responsible if it breaks during or after install.

I can install it myself if I can just get it here. We used to remove them and reinstall all the time at the interior shop I worked at after high school. Getting it here in one piece will be the hard part I'm thinking .

  12. I had my windsheild shipped through YRC worldwide from the States to Canada. It arrived in perfect shape and shipping was comparable to ups. they are located throughout the US as well as Canada. they have a website, not sure if I can post it here

Last one I had shipped Greyhound came in completely shattered. Make sure it is packed well and says FRAGILE GLASS all over the box. Then just hope they are careful with it.

I am the cheapest tightwad I know :( I would never try to ship a W/S, never mind a huge one like that...even if the new one was $299

... geez at $110 delivered in person , in one piece, makes logical sense. If they trip in your driveway and drop it, you still don't pay...they will just bring another.
