Scored this sbc from a buddy that owned a body shop years ago , he wasn't able to give much info other than it was taken out of a rat rod. The one thing that's bugging me is that there is no dipstick the hole on block is plugged with dummy dipstick.

  2. Here's what little I can add: it has a Weiand 144 ci blower that was the old B&M design. Look at the rotors to see if it has been backfired and thrust up into the case. It has Erson roller rockers that are a knock off of Crane energizers. That is an inexpensive circle track oil pan and that maybe the reason for the no dipstick. End of knowledge. LOL.

All the rotors look pretty clean , some light dust but that's about it. Looks pretty smooth no rough or gouged spots , spins freely with a slight what sounds like a suction thump when spun quickly by hand.

Correct the oil pan appears to not have a port at all , in fact the pan blocks the dip stick hole. Wondering if a low oil type sensor could be used in one of the ports that have plugs. I'd really like way to know what levels the oil is at. Idk debating on pulling the pan to see if a different style can replace this or if it's actually needed.

I'd be a little itchy about not being able to check the oil

The ‘882 heads have 76 cc chambers, basically mid ‘70’s smog heads. They are OK with a blower but without knowing what pistons you have there’s no telling just how low the compression might be. Since it’s a 283 block the valves are likely 1.94 IN and 1.5 EX and your 283 will be fine with those. I have no personal experience with those heads but it’s said they are prone to cracks around the valve seats.

There are two threaded bungs in the oil pan. One is for a temp sensor one is for a dipstick tube. The stock dipstick won’t work because there’s probably a windage tray in the sump. Here’s mine you can just see the dipstick in the second pic.

PS you can get threaded dipstick tubes from the likes of Canton, Milodon or Moroso
