Sounds like a great idea...even for us guys who know how to do it, scrounging the parts is a pain.

As you probably know, the most important part for most guys will be perfect instructions....

  3. Put me down for one! I'd get two but I already have an EZ wire 18 circuit for my 46. I've seen his work, he does a very thorough job and it looks to be bulletproof (read his rainstorm story).

Can you make it with all black wire? Just tag each circuit. I need (want) one but don't want colors. Thanks -stick

to me it isnt the fear factor, its the bullshit associated with it. makin sure everything is hooked up to the right circuit, wires arent crossed... switch is wired right out of the box.
ANYTHING to keep down the PITA of scrounging like squirrel said. BTTT

I would have bought one off of you, but I just bought the cheapest one I could find. It was $150....I think I could have gotten one for $120...but I went with Speedway because I was placing a big order and I just threw in the wiring harness too.

$85 sure as shit beats that.

And, yes, I bought the kit FOR the instructions. (and I'm too lazy to figure it all out myself) ;)

  8. I would want a fan relay (or the ability to add one) and also the ability to add turn signals - the kind that you clamp to the steering columm. I run an electric fan and I also run turn signals.

I can pull wires and make connections but I don't really understand what I am doing or why!

  11. Hack, there is a need for a true budget kit, but, as you see you will never please everyone!

Unless you have a killer supplier, I doubt $85 leaves you any room for profit.

Show me, if it is good, I would buy one.

Maybe I worded my reply badly? What I meant to say is, don't worry about being the cheapest kit out there, just make yourself availible to answer tech questions and you'll get lots of business.

Ya know, back in the mid 70s when R&C ceased publishing monthly issues and started coming out with those square bound Rod & Custom Quarterlies, they had a great article on how to wire your car with REALLY easy to follow and understand cartoon type full page wiring diagrams.

Just the basics: starting, ignition circuit, lights, horn, generator/alternator & charging circuit, gauges/sending units, fuse panel, switches, neutral safety switch, back up lights switch, etc.

Back in the early 70s Easyriders magazine ran a one page Robinson cartoon wiring diagram showing how to wire a Harley Chopper. I saw it hung in almost every bikers garage I visited back then. Real simple and easy to understand. The R&C ones for cars are just as good.

Of course with all the Wiring Harness companies advertising in the Rod mags these days, you will NEVER see a "How to Wire Your Car" feature in one of the big mags again. I have thought of posting the wiring diagrams from the R&C quarterly during a Tech week, but it might be too big a file for the HAMB and I don't have enough available webspace to post them for long. Do you think it would piss of the bigwigs at R&C if they got posted?

something about that screams copyright lawsuit to me... to be on the safe side, i'd say yea, they might take offence to that. I'm sure that Ryan wouldnt be real happy with some publishers lawyer knocking on his door either, but its sad to think that you cant post it for those reasons, and because of fat advertising bucks, they dont publish decent tech like that now as well, but thats for another rant kind of post.

  16. Just post the shit, R&C aint even the same company it was 30 years ago.

Don't know about $120 but you could have gone with EZ Wiring for $130;)

I'm not sure the liability is worth the little bit of profit you would be making. Now that you are going to be a manufacturer, you have that to content with the first time somebody doesn't follow your instructions and burns down the car and house with it. I don't want to be negative, but I saw it happen. It was the genius that knew it all but couldn't read because of dislexia.

That's a valid point. My cousin the insurance man gave me the rundown on that when I was insuring my shop. Too bad that shit happens but what can you do.

I didn't explore their site, but from what I saw the smallest ezwiring harness is a 12 circuit, which is quite a bit more complicated (and almost twice as expensive) than the simple kit that Fat Hack is thinking of offering...

As for posting magazine pages, from old magazines, I'd be REAL surprised if anyone at R&C gives a rats ass about posting a few pages on a message board. I've posted scans of pages of Hot Rod on their own message board! and never heard anything about it.

I've sold or traded most of my projects before I need to wire them. Fear of the unknown and fire are my main reasons.

Yeah,I could go for that, I only need a few circuits for my heap and yours sounds like the size I need.I can have the goods sent to my outlaws in Minnesota.

  24. Here's a wiring diagram for a Harley done in a "reality" style. It would be great for non-electrical engineers if you could do something similar for your low buck kit.

If you offer, as an option, cloth covered wires, you'll really have something!

Good idea Hack. I'd wonder how much profit your going to be making though.
I've seen T bucket kits that have no fuse panel in them at all. Just in-line fuses. You may consider that too for the simple version.
I agree.. cloth covered wiring kits would be the shit. I hated running the cloth sheeting over all the wires.

Great point and one we were discussing in detail last Saturday at a party with the owners of Ididit. The amount of liability insurance manufacturers have to carry to protect themselves is staggering. I certainly wouldn't go into "manufacturing" any type of product lightly.
