Hot Rods Any machinists that could make a fitting?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by loveoftiki, Jul 24, 2020.

  1. I moved the clamps down..not even sure if it needed double clamped..pretty low pressure..but wanted to be safe...I ran the metal line pretty far up the rubber line...
No bulge..just rubber from the clamp pressure

  2. Well....oddly enough that fitting my neighbor made worked like a champ..no leaks...but for some reason the rear one decided to leak today..it’s leaking where the hard line screws into the fitting...good thing is it’s easy to get to..I put some Teflon tape and everything and put it back together..also had fuel fittings leaking, did the same thing with those..didn’t want to fire it alone and have a possible fire..

So the Teflon tape, washer, and O ring seems to have worked.

  3. Well....It’s been awhile since I was this deep into mechanical work on a car..just shocked at the lack of quality on some of the parts ya buy today.. I bought pre bent trans cooler lines..ya know the drama with the one fitting...it’s good..well couldn’t get the easy one to not leak..leaking at the flare...it’s tight..went in straight and easy, threads look good...checked to flare...not a double flair..so I’m having my neighbor make me another fitting and I’m gonna do what I did on the other one..

    Chuck said it wouldn’t leak...

  6. Thanks for your help and insight John. I really appreciated it...now to replace the leaking fuel pump when the new one shows up..the carter was leaking from what appears to be a casting flaw.

Wow never heard of the place and will have to see if we have a local one thanks

Unfortunately I think that is going to be the future with auto part stores and hardware. It seems when I need something I get we can order it and have it to you in a day or so. I went to get Lapping compound and no one ever hear of it and was given rubbing compound instead...Oh Boy!

If you can't give them the part number of what you want, your chances of finding someone in the parts stores that can and will help you is slim to none! And that has been true for several years now and it is not going to get any better in the future!
