I am looking for some WWW tires for my 49 Buick. The Calli WW are much cheaper then Diamondbacks. Has anyone used them, were they round and were you able to balance them?

Diamondback, and I'd ***ume Cali, laminates the white sidewall on m*** produced tires. They do not manufacture most, or any, of what they sell.
I'd suggest you call Cali and ask what tire brand they would use for your requested tire size.

Calli says on their web site they use Hankook tires for my size.

The whitewall doesn't go all the way to the rim of the tire. Black tire between the rim and the start of the whitewall on wide whites is a non starter IMO.

that size seems awful big to me, but I am not used to radial sizes... 6.70-15's is what I would use....

I have heard horror stories about those tires.. going brown really fast....I can only say, You get what you pay for.

  9. After watching the video on how they are made, I finally figured out what is on my pick-up. It came from the U.S. with brand-name tyres, but I know that they are not available with a whitewall originally, and the whitewall part looks like its stuck on. They are still nice and white, been fitted and parked outside now for a couple of years.

Years ago in another lifetime I worked in the tire business retreading semi truck tires....
Hankook was a name just coming out and had no recognition. ..... That was 30-40 years ago.
No bad reputation .... just no reputation at all.

About 6 years ago I put Hancook extra load (6 ply) tires on my daily driver truck .... They claim 70K miles from them.

I only have maybe 40k on them in 6 years .... They took very little weight for balance, the tread wear is awesome .... They appear to have over 80% tread left on them. ..... I'm kinda thinking these tires will be retired because of age & not low tread.
I will probably replace them again with another set of Hankook ,just because of my experience with this set.

Just tossing out my opinion on the tire brand.

I think you answered your questions.
Hankook tires should be reliably round and easily balanced.

The tire you suggested is 0.9" shorter in diameter and 2.2" narrower in width compared to the OP's size.

As you said, Calli uses Hankook (they also use other cheaper tires, so they're a bit unclear). https://callitw.com/22575R15-Calli-Whitewall_p_341.html

In that size, DB uses Nexen. https://dbtires.com/product/diamond-back-i/

I wouldn't hesitate to run either brand of tire (The O.E. brands). As has been pointed out, Calli uses a different process so their whitewall doesn't start from the bead, and you'll have black between the wheel and whitewall. That would be a no-go for me on a wide white.

For a 48 Buick that might not be too big of a tire even though it is tall for a lot of customs.

    A 225 75 15 is 28.3 inches tall and that matches up being just smaller than a 7.60 15 at 28.8

Can't give much info on the Cali whitewalls but from the way local lowriders with hydraulics go though front tires if they actually drive the car their tires don't last long enough to turn brown.

There was a tire shop in the Portland Oregon area that was t******* the sidewalls on white letter or maybe narrow white walls to get pretty decent wide whites but I couldn't find info on them the last time I hunted. Hispanic Family owned tire shop.

I'm most likely going with a 215-75 15 Diamondback Auburn Deluxe with a 2-1/4 inch white wall as I am shooting for late fifties time frame on the build an that is about what was on new late 50's cars and not Gangsta white walls. I can't afford to be wearing out a set of bias tires every 20 K and that is what you get with most bias tires. OK for garage queens that don't see many miles a year but I plan to put a lot of miles on the 48 when it is finished.

Cali tires ****. The white wall turns brown. Then you have to sand them to get the white wall white. Then they turn brown again. He did this 4 times. Spend a bit more money for a better brand. My buddy is cheap and bought a set. Then sold them a couple years later. He never listens to me.

So are Diamondbacks someone else tires with a white wall added, like the Calli tires, except the Diamondbacks don't turn brown?

YES. Most DBs are production tires and their whites stay white

When I talked to Bill at DB he said the Auburns were their own molds.

I believe that they used thier own molds as they took years from announcing them to actually hit the market & are the only radial with a "pie crust" sidewall. The ones I saw even the tread looked like a bias ply tire.

OK, I just ordered 4 of the Diamondback 1 in the 225/70 R15 with a 2 1/2" WW. Should drop my car 1/2" from what I have on now. I have heard of problems with them, but I ordered them from a local tire shop that deals with the rod community. So if there are any issues with balance or out of round they will deal with it. Will know in 4 to 6 weeks.

As I said earlier, in that size they're a Nexen tire. You should be totally fine.

Those Buicks used a rather large tire. 7.60 to 8.20 sizes. I used to run 7.50X16 6 ply truck tires on my '46 and '48 Buicks. Because I could get them for next to nothing. A 6.70 X 15 is way too small for that car. I have been using Hankook tires on my OT truck and they have been a very good tire.
