I ran across something today and was wondering has any one heard of a MARMON motor car?? If so how rare are they are there parts worth anything?? Any info would be great!! -COS
Yep heard of them, Yep they are rare. www.marmonclub.com http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marmon_Motor_Car_Company
I knew a guy that had a Marmon, it was a roadster with the golf club door in the side. I imagine parts would be valuable due to rarity, but finding a buyer might be tough.
The first Indy 500 winner was a Marmon (called the Marmon Wasp) back in 1911. Marmon was a builder of luxury cars in the early part of the last century.
YES, Marmon are both rare and valuable. I worked on a v-16 Marmon several years ago. I'd pursue that if I were you.
A very good car from the first half of the 20th century.Try www.marmonclub.com. "[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif]Between the years of 1903 and 1933 Marmon Motor Cars (previously Nordyke and Marmon), made approximately 250,000 cars...fewer than approximately 350 exist today." Marmon may be listed as a full Classic by the CCCA. Sometimes an entire make will be Classified, sometimes only one or more models in any make's lineup will be. Major money. Classification as a Classic by CCCA makes the car worth up to two or three times as much after the announcement.
Marmon Company was succeeded by Marmon-Herrington and later the Marmon Motor Company of Denton, Texas. The name currently survives through the Marmon Group of Chicago, Illinois. Marmon-Herrington was a builder of trucks, buses, and trolleybuses, best known for its all-wheel-drive conversions to other truck maker's units, especially to Ford ones
Arent those the guys with the suits that knock on your door when you are hung over on weekend mornings and try to tell you about god??....Oh marmon, yea heard of them
Yes Google can be your friend thanks for the TIP I just wanted to see what the HAMB thought of them... I didn't find a whole car just the grill shell that is attached to this...... WELDER???? Yes a Welder with REO wood wheels and a flat 6 motor!! When I was parting it out this cool old guy (in his 70s) that lived across the street from where I found it...said he was surpirsed that it was still in in the ol under ground garage... He hasn't seen it in 40 plus years and that his great uncle and Dad use to use it when he was very very young!! The motor is a flat 6 with a carb under the intake?? The front motor mount was very very large and weird looking?? Any Idea what it could be??
As I recall the Marmon advertised you could balance a nickel on edge on the radiator as it was idling....
There's a Marmon hot rod not a kilometre from where I'm sitting, down the road at the local auto repair joint. Gets used for wedding hire.
Ya maybe it is a MARMONMATIC WELDER!! I thought that also but wanted to see if anyone had any ideas to confirm or deny that....
I was also thinking that the motor might be out of something else... It does have some old wooden REO wheels on it.... So who knows...Would like to know.... What the motor is for sure.. I can still get it if it is worth anything.... Where there a lot of flat head six motors out there with the carb under the intake????
What was the give away??? Cool Pic HRP!! The grill that I have has like a RINO HORN just above the Marmon badge...What year do you all think it is off of??
Upside down carb was the give away. Probably from the early forty's. I was reading a book about them this morning while waiting for the barber. Just a little off the top please and don't forget the eyebrows.
