Helped my buddy Jim" The Duke" RIP ,work on his wood 1938,, 50Ft. Trimmership "Load Jim",over years. He kept it tell he died,was a hand down from his Dad,but Jim made it a lot better then when his Dad had it,got as a derelict 1/2 sunk in a boat yard his Dad became part owner in. Ya big wood boats don't do well when sunk,so big pile of work went into saving it ! We raced sailboats together,I was part of 3man crew along with Capt. Jim on his race sail boat we modified * many times. The "Lord Jim" was our Delux safety chase boat,with wifes an friends on board,but help was really need 2 out of 28 races,when we flipped at just over 27 MPH< yes that is fly low in a sailboat.;;Racing a wood super modified* "E-Scow",we won 26 years, first over all ,monohull Sail. Miami to Key Largo Race often had over 200 boats racing. Jim died a mouth before the last time,his bother let us race it any way, let us take some of Jim's ash's along for the ride. We won again,and throw Jim in too the air as we crossed the finish line*first again !,some of Jim landed on the stern,we washed him off with his fav. drink"Jose Quervo" I know for sure he enjoyed and was LOL up there at that !!!!!!!!!! Man, that's awesome. Just incredible. I put my dad's 18 golden jubilee on the dealer stand (and fuel cell) in the basement. I can't believe my wife agreed! I've been eyeing vintage j class hydros to put it on. Probably next summer I'll jump on something.
1947 Truscott 19' runabout. I found this in a Chicago warehouse this past summer and bought it. It is one of 6 built. (Truscott bought out Garwood when they closed up in 46) Bought it from grandson of the original owner who had purchased it new at the Chicago boat show in '47. Had been in storage since 1985. I brought it home, cleaned it up, put some pics on instant gram. a week later a SERIOUS collector had to have it.
Man, that's really a beautiful boat. Looks like you have more to share bud! What's in the background there?!?! This was my dad's first motor when he was a little boy. 1939 Johnson M39 1.5 hp. This is the next restoration project, gonna give it to my brother in Madison for decoration in his boathouse. I got till Christmas to get it done.
210superair- there were a couple of mid50s century's and a Lyman (I think) in that pic. all owned by different people, I didn't pay much attention to them, was focused on the Truscott. Old outboards are an interesting thing to collect and restore too. (Thank goodness I have stayed away from them for now!)

He's gonna cry like a little bitch.... Lol. Next I have an Elto rudder twin I've been meaning to restore forever. That one is for me. If you were closer I'd do yours for ya!

Watched that baby in your build thread! Looks great! If you wanna go full vintage you gotta make a disc for your kid. My dad used to ride around the lake on top of a step ladder on one of these drinking a beer, lol. He was nuts. On Christmas morning if the lake wasn't frozen, he'd dress up like Santa, and my brothers and I would drive him around the lake while he skied, and waved to all the kids. I gotta see if I can dig up a picture of that, I know one exists somewhere.... When we got done we'd quickly pull out the boat and winterize it again, put her back to bed for spring. 1937 Gar Wood. Is complete minus the engine/transmission. The pictures make the wood look a lot better than it really is, it will all be replaced.
Here's the next project. This one won't go quite so quickly me thinks. 1922 Elto rudder twin. Should be a beauty when she's done. Gotta get this one running first, the last one ran and just needed cleaned up. This one I gotta tinker....
Small block Chevy, new but in todays world still kinda old school. Got a Borg Warner 72C on the back of it. Mill isn't a Bridgeport but does all the same stuff. Might be the best $500 I've ever spent!! The one behind it is a Deckel mill that I use as a duplicating machine. Not as old as the Gorton, and more specialized so doesn't get as much use. I don't have all the cool tools, but I do have some of them! The boat looks quite a bit different these days. Hoping to have it back right side up by the end of the month.
5200 in this case because that's what the owner wants. I've done epoxy bottoms in the past, in fact I prefer them. I don't use West System epoxy though.
Mine's WS, yup, I prefer it as well. The board just below the rubrail of my port side has a nice gouge in it from my father hitting a dock post pulling up to a park. I've been dreading repairing it simply because it's difficult to notice, and a pita to repair. Also, dad did it when it was his boat, so part of me wants to keep it there to remind me of dad... He was an amazing repair guy, mechanic, machinist... But he drove like shit! Lol.
Great thread I enjoyed it thanks for posting. I’m always amazed at the talent on this site. This is a boat my nephew bought for his 6 year old son getting him started early.
I'd still take that! Lol. I bet she'd clean up better than we think. If the stringers are good, boat's good!
