I personally do not like floor shifters...for manual or automatic transmissions. They are in the way if I want to have two front seat p***engers or if I need to get my head up under the dash.

I guess most of us think a floor shift is more hot roddy, though.

"Anybody have a part number, casting number or any info I can use to ID the Chevy 3spd trans with OD I have? Specifically, I want to see if it's a full-synchro trans or not. There's a late Chevy truck in the junk yard with 3spd manual, and it's late enough that'd it'd be full synchro. " The strong, full synchro Saginaw with OD is easy to spot because it is built in the S 4-speed case and has an undrilled boss on shift cover for a third shift arm.
I believe there is also a smaller late 3 speed with full synchro.

Newest one I have seen was an 86 Chev V6 pickup with 3 on the tree, bought new by a local farmer.

    Always loved them column shifters.;)
I always figured I could pluck gears on a column as quick as any floor shifter, plus it frees up a whole bunch of floor space when ya' haven't got any to spare.

Sorry this old photo was already soiled before I scanned it, but this is the shifter in my Bucket, and, true to tradition, when it's in park, the shifter is the highest point of the whole car!:D

My '40 still has three on the tree. It ain't no speed shifter but plan to keep it that way. I also remember an old Saab I had back in the lat 60's. It had 4 on the tree. Worked fine.

Hell Yes ! ... I was a demon on the tree speed as a lad .
Short stick , cue ball and reverse pattern , so your shift for second is down and towards you ...
