Anybody else running a strange motor

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by vtwinpartss, Apr 2, 2010.

  1. Just put 350 chev valve covers on it. Then no one will ever look at it. It is the way a lot of rodders keep folks from inspecting their engine compartments.
Actually it is a very cool build or should I say "Sehr kuhl!"

I'm running a Ford Ranger twin cam four, but the ride is not exactly H.A.M.B. friendly, a Sunbeam Alpine. But in a sense it is traditional, an engine I got for cheap and stuffed in by little 'ole me.

That's what hot-rodding is about to me, make something you want out of the stuff you have. The engine/trans was free, the intake and exhaust were $100 each.. pretty cool setup if you ask me.

  13. BPM - Big Phucken Motor???

  14. One of my many dream cars is a 32 Ford pickup with a Peugeot 403 engine in it, their a 1.5l 4 cylinder hemi engine. They're pretty powerful for what they are are, 62HP from a 1.5 litre engine designed in the early 1940s, not to mention they look and sound AWESOME, good on fuel too. 80HP is only twin carbs and a set of extractors away too :D.

That'd make a good, practical daily driver don't you think? :D

I will build that car one day......

    Thanks

    Hayden

  15. Sounds pretty cool to me, Hayden, and quite different from what's usually seen under the bonnet of a Deuce.

To HELL with all the period nazis.

You know what is traditional? Finding the fastest motor you could find/afford at the time. We just have more options now. I would still hide it a bit to make it look older, but for me it's all about "Run what gives you a smile".

I'm building a Chevy 4.3 V6. If people dont like it, to hell with em. I like my little six with it's stock truck manifold with the adapter for dual holley 94's. May even run a hilborn scoop. And no its not a "hidden under a hood" situation...

My wife had a 97 Regal GS with the Blown 3800. We drove that car into the ground and it still ran like a scalded dog. I used to terrorize the local ricers in it. Always made sure to roll down the back windows so they could see the car seats. I always thought it would make a killer motor in a little roadster or pick-up.

  20. Nice to see someone who knows what hot rodding is really about, and I'm old enough to know... :D

so 'why' so much disdain for the new LS series engines?
I know they are not 'traditional' (and anderstand that)

...but were'nt the big lincoln and caddy motors 'of the day' the hot setup?
take your A sedan and shoehorn in a complete 'newest/coolest/fastest' mill that you could salvage from a bone yard?;)

"It's got a Lincoln motor and it's really souped up
That a Model A body makes it look like a pup
It's got eight cylinders and uses 'em all
    Got overdrive, just won't stall

With a four barrel carb and dual exhausts
With four-eleven gears you can really get lost
Got safety tubes, but I ain't scared
The brakes are good, the tires fair"

not sticking a v12 bmw into a ratrod...

    insert upset people ........

  25. Well, weps, if you want to be pedantic, more the Caddy than the Lincoln... ;)

I say, run what'cha like/can afford and have fun.

People go on about being 'traditional' on this site but I don't recall:
    • S-10 chassis being traditional hot rod material
    • Cobwebs and skulls on hot rods like they are often seen today
    • Ramblers being considered cool cars
    • Ditto on inline engines
    • Etc, etc.

Let's just enjoy the hobby/sport and appreciate what others are doing with their rides. Like I said, I've been around a long time and this is the way hot rodding's been for me for most of my life. :D

A 4.6 Ford modular? Blasphemy!! You have angered the hot rod gods :eek::p:D

Actually, my wife drives a '95 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC with the 290hp 4.6 32v and I have to admit I'd like to have it in my old chevy truck, it's a little torque monster that moves that Lincoln right along :D

Putting a SB Ford in Chevy!

  28. You're not the first to do that. Better yet, how about a 427 BBF in a '55 Chevy gasser? My neighbour across the road when I was a kid growing up in SoCal did that in around 1965.

Indeed, the blown 3800 (L-67) is a peppy rascal. I haven't got mine running the best yet, but it sure pulls. It's a little torque monster. The big problem with modern motors is how to package them - you can try to hide all the wires and gizmos and paint them up in "trad" colors, or just keep the hood closed if it gets too hard.
