I'm replacing the foot wells on my 60 Elky and was gonna lap and spot/plug weld the patches and seal them with something. Being a cheap SOB I was thinking I could use something I already have. What I have is; A gallon can of HENRY's Wet Patch Roof Cement, Another gallon of HENRY'S Asphault Roof Coating and Lap Cement, and a gallon of KOOL SEAL Elastomeric Roof Coating. I figure one of these can't be too much different from that tar that's commonly called undercoating but I was wondering if any of you had used one on a car or was a roofer and could tell me which one would probably be the best one for the job. I was gonna seal the floors and use it for undercoater in the wheel wells. Am I nuts?
If you want a roofing smell in your car on a hot day,Your using the right stuff. The smell will go away but it will stink for awhile. fitzee
Doc, someone used the "Wet Patch" on the floor of my '81 Chev beater truck. It gets VERY sticky on a hot day. So I hope you plan on putting a rug over it.
OK, so the Wet Patch isn't a good idea inside, what about the other two? Yes I will put in carpet and probably a polyethelene sheet barrier layer because I'me going to make some drain gholes in the floors so they won't rust out again. I pulled one of the floors out by yanking on the seat belts! No biggie, I can weld....
once I built a 39 chevy[1973]-he he .....I cleaned out the mouse piss and chewies-hosed her out and cloroxed it/let it dry a day or so.Figured it would not hold paint- Then I brushed thin tar[for roof use] all over the inside floor and trunk floor. I then applied two lawers of plain old tar paper......it was cheap and very effective-I never smelled it after carpet was in....I did let it set a few weeks before putting in the rug.....[I ALSO PUT ON STUDDED SNOW TIRES AND DROVE IT YEAR ROUND!
I've used the Henry's on many floors.. the thick wet patch stuff. I put some on the bottoms of the new floor pans i installed on my 62 Falcon last year I used it on the underside of some wide gl*** fenders we installed on a F-100 so the rocks would not crack the gl*** from the underside
Thanks guys, I figured if it worked for a roof coat it's gotta be durable enough for a bottom coat. I'll keep the sticky "problem" in mind. It's only to seal the joints inside and then there's Red/Green brand duct tape...
