I know of a few places in the Fresno area but its about 100 miles North of Bakersfield. Any chance you will be coming through here on your way?

La Quinta North is close to the track. Not where some of the night time parties are held though. Link below.
There is a couple of In & Outs and a least a zillion Mexican food places.

Or rent an RV and stay at the track.

5w32, your photos and thread knocked me out of my chair. I graduated from Garey in '65, prior to the advent of the GBF, but several of us hot rodders heard about the project that Mr. Hunt was building in the auto shop class, and some of my friends followed it around the tracks in its heyday. I have notified several of my classmates to try and make it to Famosa for the HRR in Oct. Another friend of mine, Pat Coyle, who has been associated with the "Pure Hell" racing team will be out there also with a nitro burning rail for the cackle-fest. I work in Bakersfield, live in Visalia now and there are several newer motels/hotels located on the frontage road off Hwy. 99 at the intersection of Hwy 65 to Porterville, also another quick way to get to Famosa. Catch me on PM and I'll give you all the info I can to help out. cwardins@yahoo.com see ya' in October. And again, thanks for the memories.

Just found and read thru, What a cool thread, can't believe i've missed this!
5W32, what a great save and rebuild, so much history and so many people that have come together for it. I'd love to see it at the drags, and although I too live in Surrey, it's Surrey - England, so wont be making it. Really looking forward to the posts on the latest strip time, i'm sure you will all have a great time.

5w32, the old girl launches hard and straight. It must be very satisfying to have accomplished this restoration and met some new folks along the way. Well done.

our teacher was a drunk we only worked on his car 61 ford wagon
then we got 10 lawn mowers to work on
    there was nothing realy learned
i wish we had a teacher that had a concern to teach

5w32, this is an amazing thread! It's so great to see this car resurected & back on track. You have preserved history. Makes me want to find out the history of my old Willys gasser!

Wow, it's amazing, since we first saw this car when Gup was asking for info, till 5w32 took it over and started digging into this cars past, how many people came out of the wood work who's lives where somehow touched by this car, a retired shop teacher and students who long ago lost track of it, found a piece of their youth right here on the HAMB, thats what its all about and I can't wait to see some video of this old girl in the spotlight again! Great job 5w32!

Evan's auto shop teacher was at the track on the same day and got video of the first run(with wheelie) ,the teacher showed the video in the next days shop class and said "there was this cool old gasser there" , Evan just about fell out of his chair!! he jumped up and said hey that's our car!!!!!!! what a coincidence. the rest of the kids didn't know what a "gasser" was.( how sad) Evan will be able to drive one of the two high school drag cars the teachers has( camaro/ malibu) in the spring. as they say " the apple does not fall far from the tree"

Chief came up with a good one, Great Balls o Fire (GBF)..could also be Great Barn Find!
