The wife and I are going to shuffle-off-to-Bakersfield first thing in the morning. Can't wait to see and touch good old GBF again. I am very lucky that my wife appreciates my passion for cars and other things mechanical. Hope to meet a lot of old friends, and acquire many new ones.

I too will be heading to Bakersfield Saturday morning. Maybe we will cross paths. My goal is to locate the 15OZ. fuel coupe. Hope it's there. Glad you will be seeing the fruits of your labor so many years later....Mark

I participated in the racing program at Garey High, I actually helped with painting and polishing it then we took it to the Winternational but it didn't race 'cause something went wrong with the carburetor at the line, that's great that the car is still around. Ernest

great to hear from another Road Agent, do you have any more stories, photos, etc? larry brought some excellent photos today that we had never seen before , and another former Garey high student thinks he may be able to track down the Junkyard dogs( they bought the original 455 from chief) ...maybe they know where it is or?
still looking for a copy of that Lions "Drag Scoop" paper that had the car in it( its on page 35)...anyone got a copy?

Well, I am trying to unwind after three days of absolute pleasure. The Reunion was an event to behold. It is my recommendation that if you can make it to the event next year, by all means do so. You will remember it forever.

Good old GBF is a little frayed around the edges, but 5w32 has worked wonders with the powerplant, drive train installation, and detail in the interior. She looks and sounds like a real race car again! I sat in her, 5w32 fired the engine, and I blipped the throttle a couple of times. Guess what? She vibrated my butt, and purred just like she did 40 years ago. I can't wait until the real race engine is done, and in. A whole lot of fun is going to be had with her on the strip. I hope this thread lives on to record the rest of her remarkable journey. She drew a lot of attention at Famoso. Many pictures were taken, along with the video taping for Magnolia Street Productions' documentary on the car. Also, for the first time in my life, someone asked me for an autograph! A young girl (12-14?) with her dad standing behind her, sporting big grin, asked me to autograph her event program, and list where to find more info on the car. I wrote the link to the HAMB - of course.

Again, thanks to 5w32, for appreciating what the car has meant to a lot of people over the years, and for taking on the daunting task of bringing her back to life. You have made one wornout old auto shop teacher feel 40 years younger, if only for a moment.

You people are having too much fun with this. Go and sit in the corner until you get a better attitude!!!

Glad the trip was successful and the old girl and everyone involved got to meet old and friends. Nice job everyone and I can't wait to see the pictures.

Great to hear it all come together! Hope it's not the end of this story, because I've really enjoyed it!

  21. Great to see the car in person again this weekend, and meet you Steve. You've really saved the car.

many thanks to Road Agent Larry Berge for bringing some of his fantastic old photos , here they are. the one with the number 1086 and a/g on the drivers window is the day they raced at the Pomona Winternationals in 1971.

my name is Wayne and i had the privalige of helping out on Steves's 40 stude gasser ( great balls o fire) restoration to running condition and following the search for it's history.
I went with steve to Mission dragstrip on test and tune / high school drags friday sept 30/2011. lots of comments from high school teachers and students to leave the car as is, it was a perfect day and the car ran awesome.
it looks like the car was well recieved by Royce and other chrr event particpants.
glad to see that the guys are back safe and sound after the long trip, now i cant wait to see the car run with the big 455 being built.
