I'm more interested in whats on the walls and in the rafters. If he kept the cars......there has to be some cool ad's and tools around.

The long strip from the door to the taillight is '57 Bel Air or 210 lower rear fender, upside down and on the opposite side.

The Auction house is doing a pretty good job so far with the new info/pics/bid pages.

That has to be a ton of work on a sale this large.

some of the used cars are interesting, too.

so, ya go to the website and click on the Lambrecht auction. Brings up a page....how do you see the current pricing on the cars? Do you have to register?

I clicked where it has a box saying "start bidding". I figured it would want me to sign up, but it shows the current bids on 10 pages. Not all the items are listed yet, it seems.

..and, if you see a thumbnail pic of a item you want, you click it to get more pics. You also get more typed info, by clicking "more" at the bottom of each word description.

Are only a certain amount of the cars going to be auctioned online,if they are going to do it with all then why have a actual auction.

now when I went back to that page, all 10 pages show up.

  12. Because they'll get a larger commission, that's why.

Way the proxibid auctions work (last time I read the terms) is that the "live" auction will begin at the high online bid, and go from there.

The concerning note to me is that the disclaimer states that the auction company has made a request (which has been granted) to view all the online bids including any maximum pre-bids. I'm guessing the live bidding will start at the max bid by online bidders, even if it isn't their current competitive bid.

By law the auctioneer is an agent for the seller. As an agent for the seller the auctioneer has a fiduciary duty to the seller. That means the auctioneer should start the live bidding with the maximum pre bid. Some auctioneers will start at the current competitive pre bid which is ok as long as they disclose to the seller they'll be doing it that way.

I don't understand why so many people are doggin the guy for parking HIS cars like that. They were HIS to do with as he pleased. Most probably survived better sitting in the field than if he would have sold them back in the day.

  14. Speaking for myself, I have no bad feelings at all toward the dealer. Just as you say, they were his cars to do with as he chose. I simply find it to be an amazing story.

If someone is bidding online will the auction company have a live link when the vehicle is auctioned so they can participate,if they do not I would not even bid online.

You'll be able to bid or just follow the bidding live on proxibid.

Ditto. The guy collected cars, because he had the means and the space to do it. Sounds a lot like......everyone here. ;)

I am here in Omaha about 2.5 hours away. I may take the convertible out just to watch (weather and schedule permitting). Not sure though.

You can watch via Proxibid live. HOWEVER, be very very careful. That is how I ended up with my shoebox convertible 2 years ago here in Bennington Ne. I will tell most of it here for your reading pleasure and to laugh at us.

On proxibid, they have your credit card account and your IP address. And ONE CLICK TO BID. As they are streaming live video, there are also links to the pictures taken beforehand of the car. I was looking to purchase a 1939 Ford rearend for my model A so waiting and watching the lots go by. This being after we left the auction to go home in the AC because it was 105 degrees and heavy Nebraska humidity outside. Told the girlfriend as we were waiting that "those are cool cars when they are done". WHEN THEY ARE DONE!! She went to click on one of the pictures and accidentally clicked bid. I told her it was ok someone would outbid it but nope! Congratulations. We now own a 1949 Ford Convertible. Disassembled, no motor, no seats, dash and front end sitting where the seats should have been.

She immediately asked if we can call them and say we don't want it. Nope... She ran upstairs and got sick in the toilet, crying and then wrapped herself in a blanket crying. I felt so bad for her! We went to pick up the convertible within the next hour or so. There was 3" of racoon feces in the car. She was right there beside me the whole way helping get it all cleaned out.

A week and a half ago, I picked the car up with no body work done but the chassis (brakes, frame, suspension) all done from a small builder in Mid-Nebraska. We now have 500 miles on the car! LONG BUT TRUE STORY!!

    Mike

    WOW!......................

  21. She sounds like a keeper to me! (Coming from the TX Gulf Coast, I did have to chuckle a little at that "heavy Nebraska humidity" comment...) :)

YES......I was using Proxibid to bid on some antique motorcycles in Nebraska two weeks ago. I had not used Proxibid in over two years. A vintage Harley was on the block .......bidding at $48,000.....I wanted to clear the "current bid" field on the lower left corner of the page so I could be ready to bid on the Indian which was next. By clicking on the field......I raised the bid that showed in the field !!!!!! I was the high bidder for 15sec that seemed like 15hrs.......finally somebody bid $48,500 and then winning bid of $49,000.......I was shaking so bad I could hardly type a bid on the Indian.......and then I had to quickly run to the bathroom !!!!

  23. Great story, thanks. I will watch my clicking carefully!

That beats the guy here in Grand Rapids who accidentally bought a Gellig school bus from CA. The day after the sale ended, his wife asked him if he'd bought a bus.

"No, I didn't buy a bus", he said, but as it turned out, he had indeed, at some point, somehow, placed the winning bid.

Flew to CA, drove it back here, and had it at the Relix Riot last week.

No drinking and eBaying late at night for him.

I honestly don't know. There are so many baffling aspects to this... I wish I had time to go hang out in Pierce, Nebraska for a week and get the story.

I've known Ray for 50 years, bought my first new car, 1963 Impala SS, item #2 in the auction, from him and the stories I heard about why he collected all of the cars was that he believed there would be another World War and be rationing again and he would have cars to sell when that happened. If anyone is interested in that car, it was originally a 300 HP 327 engine, but the original intake manifold and Carter AFB have been replaced with parts from a 250 HP 327 and had a Muncie close ratio 4 speed that I swapped to a friend for his 63 Impala that had a Powerglide trans, before I traded it in on a 68 Z28 Camaro. Yes, he would sell these cars if anyone wanted to buy them, for the same price it was when new, just would not discount a car to sell them, so most people bought new. I tried to buy it back from him about 15 years ago and he told me a story about a guy from South Dakota that had purchased a 396 SS Chevelle from him recently that paid about $10,000 and asked if I would be thinking of paying that much for the 63, I passed on that deal. When I purchased the car new, we ran through the options I wanted and he totaled up the MSRP as about $3,600 and then ran a new set of figures and said he would sell it to me for $2996, that's how he did business, one price, no dickering on price.

it will be interesting to see how the hype drives up prices with on-line bidding

It was even on the radio today in Los Angeles !

  28. I'm interested to hear what people think about the online prices so far.
