Problems if I run a older alterd for HA/GR? Its a torsion bar front ended car,has a body and a powerglide. Just want to be sure before I put a motor in it. Thanks Mike.
The motor will have to be a 6 cylinder or flathead V8 before 1962. The powerglide is the thorn for HA/GR.. It is suppost to be a stick shift..But if you run the SDRA cl*** you can use the glide trans..
I could do a stick set up, but would rather not. I want to race with the the west coasters here. With the track rules, its easier/cheaper for me with the auto.
Thats fine,, Old28 is building an SDRA car now, He lives in Bakersfield..Look at his build thread..You will be able to run the open wheel cl*** at the ANRA races also...Have fun with your build..
Build it with an automatic, can run a later 194/230/250/292 Chevy or a Ford 300 inline six per the SDRA rules. Still need to have a ch***is cage that meets NHRA spec's for 10 sec or slower altered to run at Famoso. I will have my car ready for the ANRA 2012 season and we have another Flathead Altered that may join the group. We can run each other during qualifying on Sat like the HA/GR do and then you will be paired by your qualifying for Sunday elimination in the Open Wheel Cl***. The open wheel cl*** is a great group of racers having a good time making p***es and enjoying front motor open wheel racing. I for one would be happy to see 2 or 3 SDRA type cars out there next year. If you are interested in the SDRA car spec's send me a PM and I will send you a list. You do need to make sure the car fits into the cl*** before you sink money into it. Tom Welch
It would depend on ch***is rails too, a small tube space frame car doesn't meet the rules or the "spirit" of either cl***.
Okay Tom, Ill Pm you. 97 The car should be fine, maybe a couple of updates. The frame is a rectangle bottom rail with a tube top rail. It might be a chevy 250-6 for power. Its a older car that was updated at some point or built with a older design.
Here is a copy of the 2011 SDRA Rules for you to look at. Take a hard look at the roll cage rule and the 3" front bar clearance, as they have snagged 4 open wheel car in last two races for not meeting spec's. Both the HA/GR & SDRA cars have about the same rule on the Frame, Front and Rear Axle. From what you told (97) I think your frame will work out fine. Read the rules for both groups of cars so you have a good handle on where each is coming from. I am posting the rules here so all can see them and I will PM them to you with some additional information. ______________________________________________________________ SDRA Senior Dragster Racing Association Updated 11/30/10 General Information Senior Dragster refers to the type of car, not the age of the person racing these cars. SDRA cars should be built to resemble drag cars of the late 40s, early 50s. They should conform to todays safety standards. This will mainly impact the roll cage area. This is to satisfy track and insurance requirements. (YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAFTEY AND INTEGRITY OF YOUR CAR.) SDRA rule changes must be voted on by car owners and p***ed by 60% of the members. Each car gets one vote. ONLY car owners that are current dues paying members of SDRA can vote. All compe***ion points earned by that car stay with that car.
