Anybody got any trick body Mount examples

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by tcoupekyle, Jun 24, 2007.

  1. I used hockey pucks to gove my car a canadian flavour. You have to get the good ones - they hard rubber ones, not the plasticy ones. I think my 10 body mounts cost around 12 bucks.

Hmmmm, Im really suprised you didnt design in some sort of cushioning inbetween those mounts you made. Even Henry Ford used Wood as a cushion on my 1935 PU and I included a pic of the boards I made for it.

Youll see the pictures I included of the cab mounts I made from stall mat on the 1949 F1 PU. I used two peices on the back mounts, and one on the front mounts. You dont need a lot of cushion here, but from what I understand, bolting the body directly to the frame is a bad idea, especially if you have a stiff suspension.

I'm definately, definately going to put rubber in between those pieces of rectangular tubing. I'm just waiting on bob to bring em

  5. Fwiw - I suppose the Ford Rock Maple - really hard stuff - body mounts on A's have a bit of cushioning, but it probably has more to do with damping out vibration and buzz.

The 32 body's bolt directly to the frame with only the oiled belt on top of the frame.
The oiled belt to stop squeaks.
    So far it's working ok.

One thing that works well for me is to use bolts and nylocks to pull the body/whatever down onto a cushion without having the bolt-nut combo overly compress the rubber mount.
Worked well on rubber engine mount biscuits even if the rubber squashed out it's own self due to weight.
Now I'm running UHMW biscuits for engine mounts - works great.

If the 31 A body on 32 rails squeaks etc. due to the hard UHMW mounts a 1/8" biscuit of neoprene rubber will be added.
The car will also have the oiled belt on top of the frame.
There's a few places where the body touches the frame or is very close so that should help in the squeak dept.

Can anyone tell me where to get the metal shown above? Looks like 3/4" x 3.5" Rect Tubing. Metal distributors I have found don't even come close to those dimensions.
