After a couple years, I decided to try colored primer, to see how I like the car in two tone finish. I took it to the Leadsled in Springfield Missouri in 86, and a nice picture of it appeared in "Street Machine" magazine, from England.

The next year, the Spectacular was in Springfield Illinois. The car was painted, by then. Iroc blue and silver.

I was painting a Sportster for my buddy, Joe, in the shop the next winter, and did it in House of Kolor Cobalt Blue Candy. With the tanks next to the Olds, I decided that the Iroc color was too tame, and I needed to do it in Candy! My first full size car in Candy! I added scallops, but actually prefer the car's looks without them.
This shot is from Custom Rodder magazine's coverage of one of the Leadsleds.

My last pic. Proudest moment of my life!
Receiving the Barris award at Gettysbug's Sledscene East, in 2003!
That's George Barris, and KKOA prez Jerry Titus behind the car.

That car was built and is owned by Larry Fryfogle from Fondulac Wi. The pic was prolly taken at the fairgrounds in Fondulac during the Wisconsin Street Rod Association annual show over Labor Day Weekend.

In the background is the clone of that bad ass 57 Merc that was on the cover of Hot Rod. The sound of the motor in that car is enough to give the average car guy a CARGASM. Don't know if it goes fast but it sure sounds like it does.

The one from the Van Halen video was a 51 4 door with the roof lobbed off by none other than the great Dick Dean I believe. It was owned by a guy in So Cal by the name of Harold Saul and was in Car Craft in 83.

  17. Wow, at first glance I thought this was the old Charlie Lopez lowrider Merc.

Peter Pan, I saw the ol Charlie Lopez Merc in Holland Mich back in 90 painted dark maroon .

  19. I wish I coulda seen that ride. I always liked it from the Street Rodder cover in it's silver flake w/ pink candy scallops and Pickel mural on the back.

Then he had it a deep candy red w/ the top of the roof cut out and a red plexi insert. The car looked sharp, but I couldn't reconcile destroying a great chop with the plexi insert. Oh, well, does he still have that car ya think, Anthony?

When I saw the car someone in the midwest had it at the KKOA nats in Holland and the car was a little shabby. I always dug the car because as much as the way the back window looked shemp and the detail work was shoddy,It was cool to see a chopped Merc done in the East L.A (lowrider)style

Before Gettysbutg, the Sledscene East was held first in Virginia Beach (2 years), then Abbotsville, and Hanover PA. Here's some stuff from Hanover.

Cool F-1 truck. Even back then, wide whites, Red rims, and baby caps were fashionable...maybe it just NEVER goes out of style!

    [/ QUOTE ]

..............this truck sat so low that the front wheels couldn't turn without hitting the fenders. It was built by Jerry Vengi (sp?). Don't know what ever happened to it...

Keeping it going! How about some shots from 1990?
Gettysburg. This is one of the nicest Chevies to hit the streets. Tony Jobson's fastback. Kinda mild, but with gorgeous paint and ghost flames.
