Just poking around at the salvage yard I used to manage and scored a set of 4 aluminum slot mags with "Foresight" cast into the backside. 14x7 GM bolt pattern. Not uni-lug & won't clear the front calipers on my OT 67 Camaro so I know they got to be fairly old. Probably going to run them on the wifes 57 Bel Air but was wondering if anyone has run into that brand name before or know who might have made them. They are typical ET style aluminum slotted mags. Even came with some badly dry rotted bias ply G70/14 tires. Also wondering what's the best way to clean them. They are oxidized as you can see in the pic but not pitted. I'm thinking I'd like to keep the patina and not polish them. The backsides will need to be blasted. Thanks
From October 1963 Rod & Custom magazine auto mart feature; "INDY 500" SPEED WHEELS Their caps and punctuation on the lead in. Blurb went on to say they were "a new spoked aluminum wheel" by Foresight Ventures, 41st Ave, Oakland 1, Calif. Caption accompanying the photo stated they were "thoroughly tested and developed by Kaiser Aluminum". These were also used on the mild custom '60 Starliner owned by the then editor of Rod & Custom, Bill Neumann, and featured in a three part, how to construction series running consecutively in the September, October, and November '63 issues. First time I had ever heard of the company. The slots in your photo probably date from the mid/late '60s, maybe even the early '70s, and are probably from this same company. I love my Ansen Sprints, but that's a great looking wheel by the way.
Thanks for the info. I'm thinking probably a little earlier than late 60s simply because they won't clear the stock disc brake calipers on my 67 Camaro. I would ***ume they were made to fit drum brakes only. I kinda like the smooth rounded front profile as opposed to the common stepped design like the ETs, Ansens, etc. It's all good. I bought them to use on the wifes 57 Bel Air and we're keeping the stock drums on that at least for now. Besides the minute she saw them she informed me they were hers... Now I need to find a decent set of Torque Thrust 5 spokes that won't cost an arm & a leg for myself.
Haven't seen those "Mach Seventy" tires since mid 70's. Worked with a guy around the same time had that same smooth edge style slot on a '73 Camaro.. The tires are most likely from 74-76 (thats when I was selling them)...The wheels probably early 70's. Not a lot of early mag wheels cleared calipers. One of the reasons for the "D" spoke Torque Thrusts...
