I found this tach at the Pate swap meet and thought it would be good for one of my cars. Most newer tachs are 8 t0 10 thousand rpm and my stuff will never see this. Mostly '50's style cars. There are what appear to be 2 connections on the back plus the hole for a lamp. I suppose one is for 12 volts and the other for the negative side of the coil. The outer housing is a heavy chrome casting. It must have had some kind of bullet in the center, now gone. No evidence of a max rpm needle. The only ID on the unit is a "AC" and "made in usa" on the back. The housing has fine flutes or grooves all around it. I am thinking maybe a 60's Olds, Pontiac or Buick. Maybe a console mount. Any ideas. Confirmation on the wiring would be great too. I have not been able to find anything online like it. See the pictures. Thanks, Billk IMG_1522.JPG IMG_1523.JPG IMG_1524.JPG

Good one, Jim... used to 'observe' those on road tests at the Cad/Olds dealer where I worked.

Yeah, I think they (GM) replaced it with a vacuum gauge on the console...

Yep, my older cousin's new '64 Wildcat had the vac gauge front & center on the console.

"Tach it up, tach it up, buddy gonna shut you down." First thing I thought of was Pontiac or Oldsmobile; the colors and sweep made me think of them. Remember the L-A-R-G-E chrome cup some of the Pontiac tachs had? Must have weighed a couple of pounds. Seems my Grandmother had a Grand Prix with a tach on the consul; her next new car was a 68 Road Runner, 383, Torqueflite, bench seat interior. She was in her late 70's/early 80's then. Must have gotten the "gene" from her. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

that's odd, I have the same tach, missing the same knob. I had thought it was Buick.
