Anybody into the 57 Ford......

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Pitts642, Jan 18, 2010.

  1. What's the deal on that '57? Are you sure it's a 312? Does it have overdrive? Is it for sale?

He bought it because he thought it was a hardtop. Turns out it is a sedan with the stainless trim around the windows. Heck, I guess it could be a 292 but it's a pretty top of the line car and he said it's a 312. Not sure if it has overdrive, but it does have three pedals. I'll ask if it's for sale.

It's this bodystyle. Looks a lot like this one, except red where this one is blue. No wire wheels though. It used to have the original full wheelcovers, but now it has earlier Ford small hub caps on painted wheels.

My buddy had a 57 Ford 300 custom, 2 dr. sedan in high school. Fast forward ahead 30 years, he bought another one and fixed it like the one he had in high school, except for a different paint scheme and interior. I had a couple 57 ford rancheros about 10 years ago that I was fixing up to make one really good one. My wife came home and told me we were moving. It was her house, so after 2 weeks of arguing, I got pissed and sold the rancheros because there was no room at the new house. Worst move I ever made. Anyway, here are a couple pictures of my buddy's ride.

I bought my first 57 when I was 15 in 1886, a Custom 300 2 door with 29k original miles. I drove it for years. I've since had more than i can count, including 2 and 4 door wagons, a country squire, a Custom 2 door i dropped a 351 C in, and more...

Lowbuget Yesss i remember that straight axle 57 Ford
In fact when i hear 57 ford thats what i think about
If my memory dont fail i think a girl owned it think
that photo is from Rod & Custom 66-67 some time

  22. I've always liked them, they're on my 'get one' list. I saw this one outside the Clackamas Inn near Portland a couple summers ago when I was down ther shopping for my 61 Apache, kind of expected to see it later that night at 'Beaches', but I guess the guy and his wife that were driving it were just passing through town.

  23. I've owned several over the years. Here is one I've had the last 25 years. It's getting a complete re do but not a restoration. One year ago this month it was ready to go to the sand blaster. Today it's re-painted and coming along nicely. Not bad time wise for a personal part time project. I really need left & right inside door panel S.S. trim pieces. I still have a lot of Chrome to get done but plan to be driving it again this summer.

Some of my favorite cars of all time. And of course the black one out of the 1970 Popular hot rodding magazine that was owned by the chick (already been posted) that I will shamelessly post again. One day I will build a 57 like that. Hope you don't mind me puting up a picture of your car gasser57. Its just to darn cool to not get any exposure in this thread.

Wow, lots of great looking cars on this thread. Seems like no matter which build style you go with, gasser, kustom, cruiser... you simply can't go wrong with a 57 Ford

'57 Ford was definitely a better looking car than a bubble roofed Chevy, and I'm usually a GM fa, mostly because I grew up with a GM Mechanic Dad and that's what was looked at as being "right".

More '57 Fords were sold than '57 Chevy's too, (but only a few hundred different and that might be because they were a few dollars cheaper and that's enough for fleet buyers to make the deal with them, so whether they were more popular with the general populace or not will never be known, unless you deduct all the squad cars and taxis off the totals.)
I always liked all the different tail light lenses they had for the different models.

IF you're buying one, look for rust in the windshield dog leg.
It will be evident in the jamb after opening the door.
